When I see (saw) Shishka being a Aneous de' Hardous it was okay because thats his role in the community. But, and mabye i stand alone on this cold little ice block, I really cant stand it when I have some twirp recite me the rules after little transgressions.

A few days ago I went to the Flood and linked this ridiculous YMTD clip in a thread which I titled "Trailer to the new Batman!!!". It wasn't the new Batman, it was a stupid clip were some guy in a Batman costume was dancing around and singing a stupid song.

Alot of kids were laughing and replying with the desired "hey that was pretty funny man" and "lol". However this one little do good goober took a look, and i guess it really blew his lid. He starts b*tching at me about forum regulations and how I broke some "bate & trick rule".

I've seen this happen alot. I know they do it thinking they'll get praise from Achronos.

News? Podcasts? Machinima? Active forums? Competitions? Jaffa Cakes!? OMG!
Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

Ggrr...
I know what you mean.
I think it's good for members to point out and follow the rules and guide others in doing the same, but when they are like that I just want to get out a banmatic and...
Ignore them. Perhaps a rule against their rule dispension would be in order.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

Those are the annoying and less liked type of forum cops. The good ones are the ones who will tell someone if they are off-topic for a forum or breaking a rule, but then answer whatever question or topic the thread was about. It's also annoying when more than one person will post how someone broke the rules.

I dont mean the good ones, who offer guidance. I mean the really annoying ones who are just looking to brownose the mods.

I know you guys know what I mean. Im just preaching to the choir...

I mean, if he did it by Private Message, then it probably was a good idea, so that you didn't do it again. Correcting people in the regular Forums is what really gets at you. I don't make too many topics, so when I do I make sure they're by the rules.

I know the kind of people that you mean. The ones if you do one bad thing wrong, they flip out, and you know "play moderator."

When he did Private Message you, was it in a rude way, trying to get praise, or was he just trying to help out the Community, and enforce the laws in an "okay" way?

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Yeah, rather than replying and getting into an argument (which almost always happens) PM a mod, and if its really a rulebreaking thread, they'll take care of it.

Yes.

It states that somewhere in New Mombasa, in one of the Stickies.

If an off-topic thread is posted, Private Message a moderator containing a link to the post that you wish the moderator to view, and move/lock, instead of replying to spam which is against the rules.

In my opinion, that's being a good Forum Cop.

You say tomato; I say potato.

It never ceases to amaze me how short tempered people can become on the internet.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Look at it this way. Better them knowing the rules enough to enforce them, then not knowing a thing about the rules.

That is Grade-A wannabe moderator forum copping. Ironic, since it's coming from someone who's evidently not cut out to be a moderator.

A wise man has put it into words, which I will now put in mine own.

Oh, hell, it was ICEMAN, but whatever.

There is a difference between a forum cop and someone who simply endorses the rules. Rule endorsers are the ones who obey the rules, and gently correct others who unknowingly break them. They don't reprimand them for being ignorant, like many a forum cop would, they simple point them in the right direction. And, they will go to the more extreme approach if needed.

The forum cop, on the other hand, is the one who goes to the thread just to say "LOCKED", or "You're going to get blacklisted, ha!". Generally hypocrites on a large scale.

Each class has its own calibrations of rude, blunt, or nice.

EXAMPLE: A member posts a Halo 3 topic in The Underground.
RULE ENDORSER'S RESPONSE: Sorry, but Halo 3 topics belong in the Halo 3 forum.
FORUM COP'S RESPONSE: LOCKED/There's a Halo 3 forum, dumbass!

And, do determine the specifics of each one, simple regard the response, and judge it yourself if it be polite, honest or rude.

Only in some cases. You can't break out the cane on someone simply correcting another. That should only take affect for the annoying, arrogant, brown-nosing, rude forum cop types.

And who would hand out such punishments? They would have to be fairly unbiased, would they not?

It's not like it's hard to discriminate between the two.

People need to just post what they want really, you wont be picked to be a moderator based on shallow directives. While it does help the forums some times, it isn't really helping you.

The ones who PM us instead of posting "Locked" tend to recieve more praise, anyway. So do that instead. PM me with a hyperlink and alot more gets done.

I try to do things like this, but most of the moderators are offline whenever the real trouble starts. That is why we need moderators who can be online when others are not, have a shift of moderators so you can at least cover both night and day. If anyone can recall the deutchGod incident. I PMed many moderators, as most other members did. But becuase the moderators were not online, he went rampant with hundreds of posts. There is a big gap, for about 3 or 4 hours where no mods are online.

Dude, the weird deutch guy? Heck yeah I remember him! He was an isolated incident though, it all took place in the Halo 3 forum if I remember correctly. He was .........pretty bad. But like all spammers, his "legacy" is lone gone because his posts are hidden forever.

But the problem with that thread were people saying "What's he trying to say?" and then others who spoke German said "You're getting banned for that!" Then some were so foolish as to translate word for word what he was saying, then post it. What they were doing was just bumping it to the top with each reply.

There's a difference between "playing moderator" and contributing, in my opinion. There are so many ways to post on this site, and your posting style can either reflect who you are, or who you're trying to be. You can be a jerk, you can be a suck-up, you can be the "cool guy," whatever.

But in response to those who are in it see the site become a better place, as opposed to in it for the "mod points," the line is so thin that it sometimes becomes hard to tell who's wearing what hat.

The only reason we were posting is because after about a half hour of spam posts and no moderation arriving, we got a little annoyed.
