Hello,

As some of you may have heard from my past posts, I have been a PCI user for the past two years. For both of those periods of 365 days, I was feeling as if I had a mixed bag for a PC: I had a gig of RAM, a P4 processor, and a great screen, but my vid card was always substandard.

Anyway, yesterday I received an ATI Radeon X1300 in the mail. Unfortunately it was a PCI Express card. I was pretty angry. So, I went in to try to desperately find a slot in my computer, willing it to be there against logic.

And there it was.

On the third slot down, I noticed a slot different than the others. My heart raced, and I pushed my X1300 gently in. It fit.

So it turns out that for two years, I've been under the impression that I'm stuck with PCI when all along a PCI Express slot was sitting there.

And as if the gods wanted to complete the awesomeness, the X1300 has been running BF2142 on low - med settings really well (with one setting - textures - on high) and has played my other games like Halo and CoD2 with equally high performance.

So you can imagine how happy I am right now. :)

Every motherboard has PCI slots but not all of them have video slots(AGP,PCI-X) There is only one motherboard that I know of that has both AGP and PCI-Express video slots.

I've looked for a board like that, do you have a newegg link?

Yeah, King, that's luck. Usually the slots are labeled anyhow. Did you just fail to read the motherboard?

Now that you guys are talking about motherboards, I have a question about them?

How can you find what what motherboard you have and which slots are available without opening up your computer? You know, like the graphics card deal-io, you can find that out through dxdiag.exe, etc.

I have a PCI-E slot and an XGP and 3 PCI slots so I've got a whole range.

Anyway, Ipjuunin, best way is to find what video card you have.
Right click on "My Computer"->Properties
Then click on the hardware tab.
Open up Device manager, and see what's listed under "Display adapters"

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

And I bet you will never use that XGP slot.

Doing that shows my graphics card. Nothing else. I need to find out what my mobo is and what slots it has without opening up the case.

nope, i'll never use that XGP, but if my 7800GT breaks, that means i can stick in a spare 9200 or something. I don't know why you're confused.
