You gas up the marker, put on the gloves, strap on the mask, and walk onto the field. It doesn't matter that you failed a test, that you didn't get the girl, or that you got a ticket on the way here... your world is right for the next couple hours, this is your heaven on earth... live it... love it... Paintball for Life

i was playing the library today and i heard 343 guilty spark say something interesting. he said something about halo being activated but some infection form specimens were kept there, and that it would appear to have been an error. later, he said that the ring was created to defend against the flood, and that he was glad some survived to reproduce. i'm guessing that he is refering to the forerunners, because if he was refering to the flood, he would be contradicting himself, which a 'genius', as the moniter considers himself to be, would NOT do.

No, I believe he is talking about the Flood. He is glad some survived, so they can be studied (to find weaknesses etc). At least, I think so.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Humans aren't the Forerunners. Why? Because I believe it was Joseph Staten who said the Forerunners don't inhabbit our galaxy. And he also said the Forerunners have faded away.

To play or not to play....

Ok but Guilty Spark already knows about the Flood being released as he said earlier during the level "Guilty Spark"

343 GUILTY SPARK:

"Greetings. I am the Monitor of installation 04. I am 343 Guilty Spark. Someone has released the Flood. My function is to prevent it from leaving this installation. But I require your assistance. Come. This way. "

The Key word being RELEASED this would mean that Guilty Spark knew that some Flood were already contained on Halo. Hence GS knew some Flood had survived.

Here we see Guilty Spark saying something else (in the Library)

343 GUILTY SPARK:

"I would conjecture that the other species currently on the installation is responsible for releasing the Flood. They seem most persistant in their attempts to access restricted areas."

This implies that the Flood were kept on Halo in a restricted area and that the "other species" released the Flood.

and then (also in the library)

343 GUILTY SPARK:

343 GUILTY SPARK:

"Why naturally the Flood is simply too dangerous to release, and mass sterilization protocols may again need to be enacted. Of course, samples were kept here after the last catastrophic outbreak...for study. It seems... that decision may have been an error. "

and then (also in the library)

343 GUILTY SPARK:

"The installation was specifically built to study and contain the Flood. Their survival as a race was dependent upon it. I am grateful to see that some of them survived to reproduce."

This pretty much proves that the Flood were kept on Halo.

Now this is the phrase that causes so much confusion (again in the library)

343 GUILTY SPARK:

"The installation was specifically built to study and contain the Flood. Their survival as a race was dependent upon it. I am grateful to see that some of them survived to reproduce."

I don't think Guilty spark was talking about the Flood here. I think this phrase is mid-conversation. Guilty Spark saying that a race which (Forerunner) designed and built Halo to study and contain the Flood did so because the survival of that race was dependent on Halo.

Guilty Spark says the Flood will eventually consume all if allowed to roam free. So studying the Flood is the only way to find a cure and ultimately save whatever is left of the Forerunners race.

Otherwise the Flood would consume all. This would eventually lead to extinction.

Now this is where it gets interesting as the quote includes a line

I am grateful to see that some of them survived to reproduce."

This implies that humans are either Forerunners or the decendants of Forerunners.

The Flood was already on Halo long before Guilty Spark encountered Humans.

Humans are relatively new to Halo. Halo was designed to destroy all sentient life including humans. So after GS saw humans had survived and been able to reproduce GS was happy. It means that the Flood did not consume all and that containment protocol was successful. Up until this time GS may not have known humans survived at all.

Halo in the 1950's
92% of teens moved on to rap music. If your part of the 8% that stayed with rock, rock hard my friend and put this in your sig

He was only talking about the Flood

Then why did Guilty Spark say someone released the Flood only to later be happy to see some survived to be able to reproduce. Why did Guilty Spark say some Flood were kept on Halo then act so suprised when GS saw Flood running around. It doesn't make any sense.

Halo was designed to keep Flodo alive and study them. There would be no suprise to see Flood. NONE. It is the whole purpose of Halo.

This is more of a halo 2 and a Halo 3 question, seeing as how they will answer your question.

Just wondering, if the forerunners weren't us, then the heck is that giant structure, doing in the middle of eastern africa?

If you ask me, I think that Giant structure is part of a Halo embedded in Earth that runs along the equator. What a better protection of ring world then for it to be embedded in an already flourishing planet.

To play or not to play....

You seem to forget that there are also many Forerunner structures on many other planets? Why is the one on Earth so special? I admit the Ark is significant but Earth is not the only place where you find Forerunner artifacts and structures.

Well, I disagree first and foremost that he is a genius. Most self proclaimed genius' are not.

The point you have is invalid, just because it was an error does not mean that he can not be glad to see they are still in existance (god knows why he is though). On the subject of contradictions from the monitor I'd like to point out that he says "Ahh, I am a genius" and then later on you may hear him say "Oh, hello" as if he has forgotten you were there. Not much of a good show as intelligence goes.

RoboWolf

The ark is siginificant because on the last level of halo 2 ( The Great Journey) after u beat the brute guy, a hologram appears showing all the rings and GS says the rings go into standby mode or something like that. The ark is able to activate all the halo rings (Thats what it sounds like). The covenent go after it maybe because they don't no the location of the other rings.
