Reveille is the song a soldier plays in the morning with a bugle to get the others in the camp up. In other words, it commences the beginning of the day. For Halo's case, it basically means the start of the game.

all i could think of is that it means when the humans start to turn the tide of the battle on halo, and i would have been your daddy is meaning that the covies are now losing, but were in a postion of power before. I know this sounds confusing, and i could be miles off lol.

"I came back to life for THIS?!" -Sgt. Johnson

I think it has something to do with a joke that implies the person to whom the line refers to is not the speaker's child as they had previously believed, but instead is that of a creature/pet/ugly thing. I'm not going to repeat it here, but basically the grunt shown with the subtitle is a wierd, dog-like creature, so with a little imagination it could be considered a possible outcome of a theoretical union of dog and human.

That text wasn't the original one. If you Prima's guide, then you can see that Bungie first wrote there Fortress World.
And I don't know what that I would have been your Daddy means.

Well that was delicately put. The full quote is, "I would have been your daddy but the dog beat me over the fence."

i always thought it was just a twist from "Whos you daddy!", when someone gives up, but because the MasterChief kills them all its changed to "I would have been your Daddy"

but thats what i thought anyways.

OK, i am posting this as a reply (to Californications post), and a question. I too have wondered about the phrase "I wulda been your daddy" at the begginging of AOTCR, and i think i hvae a clue or something.

A year or 2 ago while i was playing i was on The Silent Cartographer and was driving the Warthog. I had a Marine in the turrent and he was blasting away at an elite. After the elite had died he gave one of the normal 1 liners that they do when killing a covy. but this one i have only heard once and never again...

"I Woulda Been Your Daddy, But The Dog Got Over The Fence First"

Anyone else heard that one...and i dont know if there is any connection betweene the 2 but...well hey if anyone has a comment. plz reply. Also off the current subject. Has anyone noticed the more u play Halo u can "unlock" new 1 liners from the Marines...it seems that every other time I play they say something new.

I know that in Legendary the marines are supposed to be more talkative and the dialogue is different sometimes, so maybe it's just harder to hear because it's only in Legendary (or at least more often) but the marines usually die so fast.

actually i think the whole idea it came at that point was because of the pelican coming up on those grunts at the start of the level. But thats just me.

Yeah i heard that one before. But not on legendary, like easy or normal maybe. Have any of you ever heard the one, "Wow sir you really kicked the -blam!- out of em."? Theres just so many great classics like that in Halo. Man I can't wait for tomorrow.

or maybe its just that they are programmed to say so many things that it takes a while of playing for them to say the lines...
