Well if you were going into battle, would you eant to be a super soldier with super speed, reflexes, sight, aiming and steadyness among other things, or would you want to be an avaerage joe thaty nobody knows?

I don't think it's a question of whether or not Bungie could implement the different characters; it just seems to be a matter of preference. The Elite and Spartan represent both the Human and Covenant factions perfectly . While I have nothing against Time Splitters 2 (I do own it) it's no Halo. I think one of TS2's negative traits was/is the fact that there are about 50 different models running around, 45 of which you don't even recognize. This inevitably turns it into a game with a ton of random, foreign characters. I want to be familiar with my allies / opponents, even if it's on a purely aesthetic level! The point is, there is a history, character and chemistry between the Spartans and Elites. Maybe I'm just a Halo fundamentalist. :)

I think there should be paired rivals for MP, for example: spartan/elite, hunter/brute, etc... that would be neat, but never the less, bots would really be nice with all characters. Bots would be great for those canceled lan parties many of us have.

Twelve Large ²

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

Bungie should just force you -blam!-es to play as Grunts. haha Like, they could sponser a team tourney - 8 vs. 8. It would be a team of 2 Elites and 6 Grunts vs. 2 Spartans and 6 Marines. Players on your team would have to pick who plays as what.. And your team would have to come up with the better strategy to win the free pair of Keds.

Yep, that's how they could "make" you play as Grunts. Make it mandatory for monthly tournaments, or something.

And during the off season you could go back to playing the role of wannabe Spartan.

there should be 4 player types for the 4 teams red blue green and yellow have spartans elites odsts and brutes that would be fair. brutes and odsts have no sheilds. so it would be a bit realistic then

I just want the option to play as whoever the -blam!- I want. Nobody says these other guys have to like it. My friends and I could setup our own Live games filled with all types of Characters from the single player campaign.. And we would make sure the teams were balanced. Bam! We have a fun game that's visually pleasing to the eye.

ODST vs Elites would be perfect!

No not really. They aren't even close to being the same abilities. In The Fall of Reach, When Master Cheif was just out of being biologically augmented, he killed three ODST's with ease. And thats without the MJOLNIR suit. And Elites have the same strength of Spartans.
why did he kill three odst's?

They attempted to kill him. Because ODST's think there 50 times better than the first person they see.

Only MC's and Elites.
Perfectly balanced. No extra health or more armor, or slower movement. That could make some maps boring. Like, I wouldnt like playing as a brute, but some close quarter levels everyone would be brutes and slaughter me cuz im a spartan, and i wouldnt b able to play that mpa

well here is an idea i came up with a wile back, let me point out that this could be used as an option in multi games such as an allow: grunt, jackle, marine,ODTS type of selection, spartans and elites are always allowed no matter what.

Covenant:

Grunt:
Benefits:
· Smaller and harder to hit
· Can drive all vehicles
· Respawn time is 50% less then the MCs
· Can use all weapons (only weapons that a grunt can use in campaign)
Drawbacks:
· No over shield
· Low health
· No melee attack
Description:
With smaller size and the ability to use all weapons and vehicles with a lowered respawn time it can be a great character to use during CTF matches were kills don’t count. However its low health would make them a bad choice for a slayer match. There stubby legs allow them little sound wile running offering better stealth when combined with a cloak power up.
Special abilities:
· Taunts (just for fun, to use press black tell your grenade menu shows a speaker the hit the left trigger to taunt an enemy)

Jackal:
Benefits:
· Shield (would be used by pressing the throw grenade button)
· Respawn time is 30% then the MCs
· Can use all weapons (only weapons that a jackal can use in campaign)
Drawbacks:
· Can’t drive vehicles (unless it can in halo2!)
· Low health
· No melee attack
· No over shield (not that it needs one)
· Cant use grenades
Description:
The jackal makes for great defense and forward assault troops with its energy shield it can block oncoming projectiles and absorb energy to limited capacity, this makes for an invaluable defender and shock troop by being able to block entrances or provide cover for other troops. However it cant use grenades (unless it can in halo2)
Special abilitys:
· Shield (to use press the left trigger to bring your shield in front of your body, can fire wile shielded_

Brute:
Benefits:
· Can drive all vehicles (?)
· Can use all weapons (only weapons that a brute can use in campaign)
· Respawn time 10% less than MCs
· Melee attack
Drawbacks:
· No over shield
· Low health (?)
Description: considering I know vary little about brutes I can’t say much
Special abilities:
· Dose it have any?

Hunter:
Benefits:
· Impenetrable shield (used like jackals)
· High health
· Powerful weapon
· High health
Drawbacks:
· 10% more respawn time then MCs
· Cant drive vehicles
· Cant use other weapons
· Cant use grenades
Description: with its heavy armor and impenetrable shield this is a hard foe to take out it also carrys a powerful fuel rod gun that can shoot devastating explosives at long ranges.
Special abilities:
· Shield (to use press the left trigger to allow blocking of the body, can fire wile shielded)
· Shield charge (hit the black button to change to second mode then press the left trigger to perform a mad charge and whack at any enemies within range)
· Neck stretch (hit the black button until in third mode then press the left trigger to allow you to use the hunters long neck to look around)

Elite:
Benefits:
· Same as MCs (which I think we all know)
Drawbacks:
· Same as MCs (who doesn’t really have any)
Description: similar to the master chief in many ways.
Special abilities:
· None

Humans:

GI (marines, soldiers that stuff. Your basic infantry):
Benefits:
· 30% lower spawn time than MCs
· Can drive all vehicles
· Can use all weapons
· Melee attack (?)
Drawbacks:
· Low health
Description: a GI standard infantry
Special abilities:
· None

ODTS:
Benefits:
· Can drive all vehicles (?)
· Can use all weapons (?)
· Respawn time 10% less than MCs
· Melee attack (?)
Drawbacks:
· No over shield
· Low health (?)
Description: a heavy soldier, the humans answer to brutes
Special abilities:
· None

Master chief:
Benefits:
· I don’t think I need to describe these
Drawbacks:
· I don’t think I need to describe these
Description: it’s the master chief
Special abilities:
· none

Flood infectors:
Benefits:
· 90% faster respawn time than MCs
· 5 NPC flood infection ghost your moves (and if your flood dies you get to use one of the others)
· Once an enemy is killed the flood infect him and become flood warriors.
Drawbacks:
· very, very low health
· Easy to kill
· Cant use vehicles
· Cant use weapons
· No over shield
· Cant use grenades

Description: five vicious flood infectors who can be used in sneak attacks and reconnaissance. There attack is basically leaping onto their enemy and chewing on them tell there dead
Special abilities:
· Wall climbing (to wall climb simply run into it)
· Infecting (this is enemy specific, so grunts become flood carriers and humans warrors and so on)

Flood carriers:
Benefits:
· 70% faster respawn time than MCs
· A mobile bomb that when explodes drops (is it 3 or 4) flood which you become
Drawbacks:
· Low health
· Easy to kill
· Cant use vehicles
· Cant use weapons
· No over shield
· Cant use grenades
Description: although it is a suicidal unit when it dies you assume 3 or 4 of the flood infectors it drops.
Special abilities:
· Detonate (press the right trigger and make it go BOOM)

Flood warriors:
Benefits:
· High health
· Can melee
· Can use all weapons
· Can use all vehicles
· Makes lighter weapons ineffective
Drawbacks:
· Arms can get blown off
Description: these warriors are extremely hard to get rid of vary little can take them out in one hit they just get right back up however during the time they’re down you can blow off they’re arms.
Special abilities:
· High jump (simply jump, this can be combined with a swing of your whip arm for high damage)

now its obvious you wouldn't want to use a grunt (unless you were realy good) in a slayer match, but you could for fun do a match where there are two hunters and you and 14 other ppl play flood infectors and try to bring them down.

the moderator of an xbox live game would be able to switch on and off which characters are allowed in his/her game, using an on/off type deal with a list of charictures.

Its good to see that you put so much thought into that, but I think it should still stay MC and Elite only
