Bungie has lost its genre backbone, in a sense. FPS can't keep you alive forever.

I dont really know why I am saying this, maybe it is just my late night mind trying to see the big picture, i dont know. I was just wondering, if I was the only one that gets the feeling that bungie has lost some of its maverick appeal. They seem oh so mainstream to me. I dont really have any examples, but something right now makes them feel alien, a studio that broke off from the corperation and now has become the corperation.

I dont know. I just needed to say taht. Anyone else see where Im coming from?

Hmmm....true. I would love to see Bungie make an RPG, not necessarily in the Halo, Marathon or even Myth Universe, but something altogether new and refreshing.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

This foolishness ends here. Bungie has released two of the finest games ever in mine and MANY other people's opinions. They have changed the landscape of FPSes if for no other reason than that their games have featured a polished gameplay that is ridiculously fun, even if it isn't impressive on paper.

Identity? Hell, I don't know. I don't mind, either. They make great games, which is what I give them my money for.

I agree with Uberdawg. The website's lost its identity, that's for certain, but I daresay the character of Bungie - their ability to craft unique, innovative and immensely entertaining games - remains strong.

I have to kinda agree with the thread starter here, Bungie in the past was kind of a different sorta company, it's community was LOADED with inside jokes, and a different feel than other game companies, and now it's sorta.....became more normal. I still love their games, but I'd like to see some of the random siliness return.

Cronin's Law----The New Flood Drinking Game

I think that this might stem partially from Halo 2 and it's release:
Bungie got burned pretty badly from the fans for stuff that wasn't their fault-- MS set a date, and they had to meet it, no ifs ands or buts. Bungie's response wasn't quite perfect either, with a touch of vindictiveness-- not unjustified, either. They bust their arses making the best game they can in a ridiculously short amount of time, and all they get is a ton of grief from their fanbase.

I think that marked a significantly different approach in PR with bungie, being more guarded and less personal.

Unfortunate that a few -blam!-s ruined it for everyone.

Since Halo 2, I think they have realized that sometimes if the public sees a little more, they have a little more say on the project. I think it's their struggle between a game truly for their fans, and the shock value of what to expect. I think the fans finally won out after Halo 2, so they are a little more open.

Haha get it?

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

Bungie lost it's identity?

Have they changed in how they interact with their fans?

Yes

Have they stopped respecting their roots?

You might say

Do they still make kick ass games that are unmatched in their gameplay, plot, and FUN?

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

They've lost it? Well, that would explain this weird thing that's clinging to my leg...

I don't think Bungie's identity was making something different than everyone else. Their first game is a testament to that fact. Bungie's identity was simply making games that people enjoy, and trying to appeal to as large a crowd as possible. Action for the people with short attention spans, and intricate plotlines for the people who feel the need for some sort of intellectual stimulation while they play. Thus, the games do not need to be brand-spankin' new. There's only so much stuff that's new. The games simply need to be fun. I enjoyed Marathon, Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity, Myth, Myth II, Halo, and Halo 2.

Thus, in a world of about 6.5 billion people, at least one person is pleased by Bungie's work, and though my fifty bucks won't keep them afloat, I'm sure that they can sleep happily knowing that their work is appreciated.

I suppose I could buy an extra copy or two to help fill their stomachs.

So no, Bungie has not lost its identity. It's right where it should be: sitting in the local bar drinking enough to kill a lesser company's identity.
