I've been playing halo since it came out and i never grew to like the control style of each thumbstick doing something different. i messed around with the different types of thumbstick layouts and i found that i liked legacy the best, but i've never met anyone else that plays with that style too. does anyone else play with legacy?

I play Legacy when I play Campaign, but for some reason, I like the default better for Multiplayer.

Hm.

Legacy. Wasn't that the control-scheme for early console shooters? Some real good players play with Legacy controls.

Today's modern console shooter's default control style mostly consists of having a player move his avatar by moving the left stick around (moving the left stick up to make the character on screen move forward, and vice versa) and aiming his weapon by with the right stick (moving the right stick left to make the reticule, the weapon, the character, in that direction, and vice versa).

However, earlier console shooters had what we call today the Legacy controls. Moving the left stick left or right would make your avatar aim to the left or right, while moving the same left stick up or down would make your avatar move forward or backwards. The right stick, pushed right or left, would make your character strafe to the left or the right, but moved up and down would make your character aim up and down.

This was before Halo came out, setting the standard for future console shooters by giving players a solid control scheme much more user-friendly, with a combination of auto-aim and easy controls. Today, most players would find using the legacy control scheme very difficult to use, as it is quite disorienting among most for a joystick to be able to move and aim your character at once.
