everyday I see topics in the wrong forum. Sometimes there in the most stupid place you can think of putting them and it is hilarious. Bungie needs to add a system where when you hit "New Topic" it comes up sort of like the "Submit News" on the front page of Bungie.net. When you go there there is little images that allows you to choose which one matches your news article. If Bungie added this to their site there would barely be anymore wrong forum topics and would make everything more organized. If they did this and people still kept making topics in the wrong forum then these forums shouldn't even be online because the amount of "screw ups" these forums get is amazing.

I don't about that. but then I never submitted news.

No, I think people just need more common sense.

I am...whimsical today.

Sound's like a good plan. It would cut down on those who do so by mistake.
However, it is often not those who do it by mistake who cause the most annoyance.
These spammers will have more trouble in putting a topic in the wrong forum, and so there will be some use of it.
If there is a default setting, then the majority of the posts will end up there.

I like it. It's not a solution, but a good deterrent :)

Good idea. Really good for new members too.

Read about the Forgotten Spartan I Program
Butane: To protect the world from devastation!
sir_brilliant: To unite all people within our nation!
Rainman89: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
sir_brilliant: To extend out reach to the stars above!
SpaceGhostFlyer: Jessie!
Butane: James!
sir_brilliant: Team Rocket blasting off at the speed of light
Butane: Surrender now or prepare to fight
sir_brilliant: Meowth, that's right!

The Problem is, anyone could say there topic is about Halo 3, but it is really about Halo 2, or XBL. The real problem is that people are too lazy to try and find the right place to post their topic.

Your idea is no more effective than the descriptions under the forums' names. I am not saying that to put your idea down, I am just saying that until people want to be smart and follow the directions, nothing besides approval of every new topic by a human entity (which will never happen), there is no way to stop someone from talking about Halo 1 in the Underground.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I don't understand what you mean. Would the icon correspond to a forum, so people are in effect graphically picking what forum to post in? That might not be a bad idea, but what you said (as I interpreted it) seems rather pointless.

There is no way to solve the fundamental issue of people. They cannot always judge to the standards of the forums' rules - the moderators can assist with that - but often they do not even try. If people are too stupid to read, I think they'll be too stupid to operate such a system anyway.

sounds like a good idea, yet putting that system in may be harder than a couple of locks and moves now and then.

No stupid(JK), I am saying an icon representing what the forum is about and a little description next to it like Halo 2 forum.

Just make the default forum the flood. Then people who are lazy end up with their post in the flood. There it causes no pain for any moderators moving it around. If people don't choose a forum the topic would probabnly fall into the flood classification of
The Flood
Off topic forum. Use at your own risk. Say your stupid things here.

I think this would at least lower the number of threads improperly placed. If someone feels like spamming they will do so regardless of how it's setup. so that really isn't of importance.

I like the idea

P.S. Based on my programming experience and base line knowledge of how the site is setup this system (I think) would be easier to implement than the current post in a specific forum because the site wouldn't have to keep track of the current forum ID

So in effect, you click 'post thread', and it comes up with a page not unlike the normal forum page, except when you click on the forum it takes you there and posts your thread in that forum?

I don't see how it fixes any problems we already have. The only problem right now is stupid people not paying attention to the rules, and this might help a LITTLE, but I don't think it justifies the probable man hours to put it into action.

Dam...good point, but what if it is the same forum page like you mentioned but it had it at the bottom like a verification?

On the page there would be a detailed description of what goes in which forum.

I'm not smoking anything.

Having both the choosing of the forum and the writing of the post on the same page (as suggested above, I think) is a bad idea. If there's a page for forums and a page for the post, then you HAVE to choose a forum, while in the former situation you just ignore the forum choosing and scroll down a bit.

In fact, why do this at all? It seems like a bit of a waste of time. If people can't already post in the right forum, then they're probably not going to use this properly either. It comes down to ignorance, laziness and "more people go to this forum so I put it here", which, frankly, is a helpless cause.

I know, I was thinking of even more detail. Say...

[icon here] The Septagon
Select this if your thread concerns Bungie.net and how it works.

[icon here] The Underground
Select this if your thread concerns Bungie in general and oldschool games. Do NOT select this if your thread is about Halo.

more detail is not what we need. It's less detail, if anything, so it can be beaten into the disgustingly thick skulls of some of the morons who do regularly post things in the wrong forums, and hey, let's face it, if they can't be bothered to read a one-line description, they're just going to hit any old thing on the list.

I know, I was thinking of even more detail.

Why more in detail? They are already straight forward and to the point as seen here:
Halo 3 Forum
The forum for all things Halo 3

And:
Optimatch
Dedicated forum for Halo 2 Xbox Live Optimatch Playlist Discussions

The point is, is that no matter how much you try and help, it will just about never work. The problem isn't the details, nor is it which forum is closest. It is the problem of people being lazy and ignorant. Placing their post where they wish, just because it is the most used. The true problem, is the people of this site themselves, not the system. The people cannot be bothered to read a sentence or two. Or even post in the right forum as this thread is discussing. You may have your fancy little doo-dads, but honestly, it will never help.
So it goes.

I would like to see that idea if we had only one forum. It would be cool, but it's unecessary right now.
