Heyyo,
First off, welcome to "The Maw" dude. :)
Ok, now, letme help ya out eh? So, you wanna hook an xbox controller to your PC eh? there's 2 ways: the hard, and the easy way.
Let's start off with the easy way, get an adapter. There's some crazy ones out there that hook up 4 xbox controllers to 1 usb port, so that's intense, and also supports force feedback on all 4. There's other adapters, but BE CAREFUL, I read up on some of them, the cheap early ones DON'T HAVE FORCE FEEDBACK SUPPORT! so you've been warned, pick your adapter carefully dude.
the hard way? well, you split open the cable yourself, and splice it to a USB plug. This is harder cause if you mess up? your cable will look nasty forever. I know one dude named "DigiMaster" on this forum who's doing this, hopefully he finds this thread and posts how well his splicing is going, cause last I heard he's having probs. Mainly cause he says there's some extra yellow wire. It should be straightforward since you just do a simple "match the wire colors" kindof thing. After finally splicing the cable, you'll need to either try some default joystick drivers, or find some off the net that someone has made. I suggest first trying some of the default joystick drivers since they're less likely to mess up your PC. The prob with them is they tend to not support more than 8 buttons, which xbox exceeds.
Remember this, even with your xbox gamepad plugged into your PC, it'll be much harder than on xbox. Mainly cause HaloPC has no autoaim help at all, so all your kills will be by skill. And if you pwn like that, you have my respects. Cause yes, there's (to some degree) autoaim on xbox FPS. With the sniper rifle it's more minimal, but with meleeing it's most noticeable.
OH! HaloPC sadly, lacks the built in force feedback support that its xbox counterpart has. Here's my solution: Immersions Touchsence Gaming.
It creates force feedback from sounds generated by your soundcard, it's pretty sweet. Even when not ingame, it rumbles if any sounds are generated eh? so for listnin to music, it's like a cheap emulation of rumble created by a good subwoofer. =D

It's Shareware, so you'll need to register it after 30 days or illegally crack it. I think this programs worth the cash cause it does force feedback for anything, which is great. So in like 10 days? I'm probably gonna pull out the creditcard n' buy it. :)
And ThE_MarD strikes again with his massive posting! w00t!
