What can I say more - some where microsft have crossed wires and now harly any games work on my system.

I wouls like if posible to find the answer to one question

Why the hell do I get that damn error message???

I am running.

3000+ AMD XP - 128MB Nvedia Geforce - 512MB ram - 750k BB connection

Now I could run the game for a long time but gradually I have had that error come up and now I cant even et into the game.

I have done everything - reinstalled game - wipped system - ran msconfig and shut down background apps - updated xp (but I don't think this is the proble) updated halo to 1.05v

I seem the have probs with the sound .dll file yet I have 5.1 onboard sound that is fine.

What really ticks is that my friends have the game and play it fine and have never even seen this error - they have a 3.2 p4 HT and ati 128mb - but as the minimum spec is far below that of my system, what the hell is the problem - may be we need to raise the minimum spec.

and I just don't get why the hell no one is sorting it - I and many others payed good money for a game that we love - but it runs so crap - sort it out bungie..........what you got no time cause you pissing around with halo2 ......sort it you lazy gits

1) Did you build this system yourself?
2) What drivers, if any, have you attempted to update? You should make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, motherboard chipset, and your soundcard.
3) You say hardly any games work on your system anymore... this sounds like it's your problem, not Bungie's. Why would they want to "sort it out" if it's not a problem on their end? Just take a deep breath and post sensibly.

Edit: Also, you say nothing of WHEN this error occurs. Is it reproducable? Meaning, does it happen when you press a certain key or pick up a certain weapon 100% of the time, or is it fairly random?

why thank you that helps me!

okay lets tell you waht I have done to correct this issue -
1. I know how to update my computer and its drivers and yes I have done this in every way.
2. No I did not build this system. but will in th future as my last one I built ran fine for 3 years.
3. all the games I have issues with are not only my problem - example Tiberan sun many have experienced isseues with SP2 so I guess I was complaining at the fact that Microsoft has its wires crossed in providing a good none conflicting OS.
4. I have conidered that the issue may be at my end and have tryed every posible way to fix this problem - by updating all of my hard ware drivers.
5. Halo's splash screens show but as soon as I go to play or do anything it quits out - sometimes I don't even have to press a button and up comes GED. Plus it happens all the time now I can't ever get into the game.
6 I played halo fine for around 2 to 3 months before this issue even showed up so I assume that it is not my system - that it might be something else.
7. I have read of many issues on this forum with halo yet there seems to be no real fix to it as they cannot seem to find just one problem everyone seems to be effected in many different ways.
8. It seems also to me that this 'GED' error only happens with Microsoft games so if enough people make a noise about it they might re-think the design of their game launching console - (most effective ones produced by 'Raven' I find) I mean concidering the games are running on a MS OS you might at least think that they would run the absolute best - but they do not!
There needs to be a bit more colaberation between the microsoft companies and I am pointing out that there obviously is not enough when it come to software building.

And finally I don't believe this issue will ever fully be resolved as the game (it seems) was only design to work on a few different systems - perhaps instead of saying Minimum spec they should say - if you don't have this computer with these components it won't work!

True. Halo has had many problems with SP2, but there are many threads dealing with this problem that are stickied at the top of this forum. The easiest solution in my mind is to be more aware of computer security and just not install SP2. :P

That's probably the point at which SP2 was installed. You say you've wiped your system and started from the beginning. Did you try Halo before SP2 to see if it would work?

Ah, but I'm sure that if everyone on this forum posted their specs, we'd each have a different setup. :) It does work on a variety of hardware. It's just that it works better on some than on others. ;)

When I first built my system halo ran fine till I started updateing when I got back from overseas and then installed SP2 havn't had any major problems with SP2 untill I try to play Halo or even EIDOS game Tombraider AOD. Gives the same as Halo but if I disable Plug n Play through Msconfig services I can run them but i have no sound and cant use my game pad so why even play if I can't hear? Or use my game pad? so the prob aint just with MS games seems the games that us Directx heavy are having the problems.

My sys specs
DFI Lanpart pro 875a
3.06GHz Intel w/ HT
2GB ram
36 GB 10000RPM serial ATA main drive
200 GB 7200RPM ATA on Raid
128mb Nvidia Gforces FX 5200
Sound blaster Audiagy ZS 2 w/ 5.1
onboared sound disabled
19 in LCD
512 DSL

most my access are logitech or creative.
And all my drivers and system files are up to date Dxdiag crashs when it gets to Dxinput 8 and starts the Diagonstics on my input divices
