I was just reading Halo: First Strike, and I thought of the Forerunners. They made Halo, what else likes to fix, make, and create things? Duh, Engineers. Maybe they made Halo. And in the book, the Engineer helped John fix the engine so the Covie ship coulds go thruogh SlipSpace, maybe the only reason the Engineers are with the Covies, is because they want to kill the Flood. Why? If they created Halo, they wouldn't want to destroy all that work, would they? I don't think so. They just want the FLood out, and that's why they were'nt in the game Halo 1, because they left Halo because the Covies were going to destroy Halo, and they left so they wouldn't die. Since they knew they would never stop the Flood from srpeading, they planned to leave, and kill the Flood, but they attack humans because we are also food for the Flood, and the Covies don't want to all die, but they don't care about us. And they take the Engineers off Halo because they're usefull. They can fix things easily so they keep the Engineers as slaves, so the Engineer in First Strike is happy to help John, because he was enslaved by the Covanant. What do you guys think of my theory?

NOTE: This is just a theory, so don't think I'm leaking or anything.

I have read the books too and I also thought of the engineers as being possible slaves. Since the covenant assimilate others' technology instead of inventing it you have to wonder...

They are very smart and can fix anything. They are non-combatants...
