On Thursday of next week, my school is holding a one minutes silence for all those who have died in wars. Please do so yourself.

Thats a nice thing to do. In fact, I will stop my HALO 2 playing for exactly one minute.

It's more to symbolise your respect for the war dead, not about respecting them for just one minute.

The thing that pisses me off about minute silences is the unfairness with them. We have one minute to remember all the millions of war dead, yet when the Queen mother died we had TWO minutes of silence. Who the -blam!- believes that the life of an old, -blam!--supporting, right wing whore like her deserves more time than the millions who gave their life, both voluntarily and involuntarily, in combat?

Too true.

My family has quite the military history.... I had some great-great-grandfather that was in the civil war...Both my great grandfathers served in world war one

One grandfather that fought in the pacific during world war two and was a P.O.W on the bataan(sp?)death march

and one grandfather that's a former marine that served in korea and vietnam.

(none were ever even wounded....)

and my friends older brother just got shipped to Iraq right out of marine training...

Do victims of war count?

Back in China, my grandparents had happy lives. Then the Goddamn Red Army of the U.S.S.R. came, and they ruined everything. That's the only reason that my mother was born in America, then me. Damn Soviets.

Really... Thats interesting... where did you happen to get this Halo 2? I see it's not nov 9th yet. Maybe you should shut up and not talk about such things here. That's just not cool

Remembrance Day is on the 11th. Halo 2 is available on the 9th.

who is the Queen Mother? and from what i hear, im thinking shes a queen...

but yea i agree, millions of dead soldiers deserve silent remeberance than some old bat that happened to be queen.

No the Queen mother never ruled. She was the mother of our current Queen. Personally I like the idea of having a minute to remember all those who died for our country. After all, in some way or another, every aspect of our life is because of it. For example, if we hadn't fought the -blam!-s, a lot of cultures would be wiped from the planet by now.

The Queen mother was the old ratbag that was Queen of England, while married to King George IV (who incidentally had close ties to the Na.zi party), and then got the title of the Queen Mother when her daughter took the throne.
She was an evil, racist old whore, who did nothing but talk bollocks and drink gin (bought with the taxpayers money of course) and never did a days work in her life. Just like all the Royal Family. Drown them all in a bucket, thats what I say.....

I still think its kinda stupid. I mean really... Half you people don't really care anyway. I think it just seems kind of insincere... someone tells you to be quiet to respect people... I find my own ways to remember and respect. And not when people tell me too either, I do it quite regularly.
