Credit goes out there first - This idea cropped up on the moap IRC, i think Chris spawned it.

Ill let you come to your own conclusions, but i genuinley think bungie.net would be a much better place if we could post only 2-4 times per day.

Everyone would actually think what they are posting not to waste their limit, and no one would waste said limit on flaming or pointless *lol eats a bunny* replies.

i think it could be a great thing for the flood, smart conversation might not drown under the torrents off off-topic crap which has always stopped it being something good for the community.

Id say we could let moderators post more, for peacekeeping reasons, but other than that, fine.

Underground Pleasure - aren't you a bit curious?

2-4 posts a day?
2-4 threads a day?

Either way.....your idea is crazy. I don't like it.
Do you not understand what a "forum" is?

This will destroy the community rather than help it.

You want to know what it'd be like to have no moderators on this site? Try this easy to prepare simulation.
Step 1: Procure yourself an intact box, something a fridge or similarly large appliance.
Step 2: Fill cardboard box halfway with feral cats. One or two should be rabid.
Step 3: Climb inside the box, closing the top behind you.
Step 4: Begin screaming and thrashing wildly at the cats.

A maximum of 4? No way, that would destory the forums. The whole point of a forum is to post and join in conversations. If that were to be enacted everytime you started a discussion you would have to stop because you ran out of posts.

4 posts? Farrrrr too low.

I've often in the maw, and even here in the septagon, posted 4 times in 4 minutes with solid content. I'd prefer a shorter time-related post limit, say, 10 an hour.

However, just gagging everyone isn't the way to improve quality of posts, giving them a kick in the teeth (see: ban.) whenever they drag something wildly off-topic would be far more effective, imo, without limiting those who's posts aren't moronic garbage.

Another alternative, is, of course a karma system with your post limit linked to your level, however, you lot all hate that idea, so hey...

Honestly Gendo, I do not like this idea. Doing this would kill the forums. There would be no more discussions, whether they be intelligent or not. I can't tell you how much I am against this. Although I hardly even post 4 times in a day, this idea, in my opinion, is just wrong in so many ways. Now if this were thread limits, them I would agree. Once this discussion gets going I shall add my opinion when needed and when I feel is the correct time.

I think the forums are fine as is. So sometimes there is excessive spamming, the mods usually do a good job of quickly silencing them with Ninja skills. The community doesn't need to be limited due to the small group that trys to destroy the forums.

Gendo wasn't referring to spam attacks, rather improving the quality of posts. If you only have 2 posts to use in that day, you won't waste them on mindless crap like "*shoots arrow*", which is posted just for the sake of posting. there's a stupid amount of this moronity in The Flood, most people just block it out because its been commonplace for so long.

(edit: just to show how useless this would be: i've already posted twice within 5 minutes. that'd be half my day's quota gone, and neither of those posts were useless.)

No, it would help it, but perhaps not as extreme as that big a limit. (And I think it is you who doesn't know what a forum is; you're looking for a chat room)

We're still in there talking about it (or at least we were a second ago).

Yes, Chris spawned the idea. I think that 2 posts an hour is fitting (it will cut down on spam and people will think before they post). This would, undoubteldy PERPETUATE quality discussion. It's pathetic when lame threads that go off topic outlive far better ones simply because a "forum regular" started it.

I'd like to see two posts an hour and one thread every two hours. 48 posts a day and 12 threads a day if you truly utilized them (which hopefully, nobody will).

It will deter many people that spam and post useless crap just because they would disagree with it. Sure, I post more than twice an hour but if that limit were implemented, I wouldn't object.

Quality over quantity, ftw.

Edit: Oh and it would be nice to have groups not have this implemented, so the "forum regulars" who are [oh-so-highly] respected can still have chat threads with their buddies.

Sorry, I refer to mindless posting and crap as spam. They are both very similar so I took Gendo's post to refer to both. In the end it is the same meaning though.

How can you have quality if you have no quantity? This would kill the forums. Intelligent threads would dwindle off the face of this website.

Perhaps 6 posts an hour. One post every 10 minutes should be enough for discussion to take place. Those who wish to waste their posts is fine.

I still like seeing one thread every two hours though.

No that is even too few. Imagine that you are sitting at a table with your friends and only say something once every ten minutes. Like impurity said, if that ever happened I would pack up my balls and leave.

I also disagree with Recon. The best thing about this site is that we are all equals, with the exception of the moderaters. I wouldn't want to join this site just to only be able to post a limited amount of things until some arbitrary number is fulfilled.

Nah, don't like this. Dumb people/posts or not, this is a forum. The forums would be pretty freakin dull if we could only post here 2-4 times a day. Besides, is it a bad thing for people to be too active?

I understand and respect that view. I tend to share it too (but to a point). As the site is currently configured, all members are created equal. And they remain so.

It's the second part that I am not so sure of. I don't mind everyone starting off on the same foot. But we have an entire spectrum of members and their actions. We do have "negative consequences" when someone is non-contributive (blacklists). But we have no real rewards or recognition for those who really are more than just an "average" member.

Equality is fine. When it comes to potential and core abilities. "All men are created equal", but it doesn't end there. In real life we're all given our basic rights and abilities, it is what we do with them that allows someone to be exceptional, reviled or part of the crowd.

I'm a fan of equality, but I am not an advocate of keeping people down to prevent them from standing out.

As a very odd communist, I believe in perfect equality, though I only believe in perfect equality for those who contribute. What I'd like more is a surefire way of getting rid of problem members than a way of punishing people simply because they are not as "old" as everyone else.

And as an idealist (one who is perhaps a bit too much so), I believe that a good deed is a reward in itself, and being thanked, whether it is implicit or explicit, should be enough. I despise the idea of some sort of big reward for being good, because then you simply hurt the idea of humanity. But then again, I am an idealist and a Platonist, so I suppose not only would futhering this point be something for another place, but I would not be able to overpower those who outnumber me.

It's a subtle thing, and very rarely pulled off well. But to impose a "lowest common denominator" rewards mediocrity and discourages excellence.

Can mods peek into groups? That feels eerily creepy to me...

I apologize for espousing my economic and philosophical beliefs in this thread.

If Bungie puts any restriction whatsoever...I'm leaving this site, and I'm sure many will go also.
The spam-filter is good enough.

It's like dictatorship on a forum.

I like Recon's karma ideas. It'd be hard to pull off but it'd be worth it. Most of the people that have disagreed with the idea would have a good enough "karma" to be above the restrictions anyway.
