once this random hot girl walked up to me and asked me to put my hands on her boobs. that was a cool day.

O_O you looked at your friends balls when "he" sat on your head O_o

Writer's Note: I am going to bypass the filter only so that you know what I'm talking about. You wouldn't know what the hell i was talking about if i said "Why is -blam!- blamed out because -blam!- isnt really a curse and doesnt need to be a blam." Unless your Cyber Flamechu, thats his native language.

Anyway, I was just wondering why it is that the word N@zi is edited out?? It's not really a curse word and everyone knows about them. They weren't good and/or moral people, but if we were talking about WW2 in a group, it would be annoying to have a -blam!- every sentence or have to bypass it. So, why is the word N@zi edited out?? It just doesn't make much sense to me

Because to most, it is a prejudice comment.

A better question is, why is b!tch censored? I think it can be assumed that if people here were using the word, they would be referring to a female dog. Ah well, that's bureaucracy for you.....

You're funny! But seriously, who actually uses b!tch for its proper definition anymore?

Do not panic, or you will fail.

N@zi is banned due to the fact that people would abuse it, and lots of immature people would be calling each other -blam!-s. It would create and unstable environment here, an Achronos would have a field day with blacklistings.

I hate how in this day and age you have to always assume the worst of people. Well I probably would anyway, but still....

Anyway, I always hated how -blam!- is censored. The only people who use it as an insult are idiots who come only to be jerks, so it's not like they could abuse it and get off free. I hate having to say my grandfather fought Germans in WW2 since my other grandfather's grandfather was German.

True story. I was on my way to my brother's wedding rehearsal by train when (due to some idjit getting nailed by a freight ahead of us; don't try to beat the gate, the results ain't pretty) we had to stop while they cleared the tracks. Some whining doofus behind me kept calling the conductors -blam!-s because they couldn't tell him how long the delay would be and wouldn't let him leave the train because it wasn't safe to let him walk across three other tracks until it was cleared.

Yeah. Real oppresive, that.

The moral: these days, the term is far more likely to be abused than used properly in general conversation. I can certainly understand why it's on the swear filter.

-- Steve was sorely tempted to get jackbooted on the snivelling git himself, but instead put on the headphones and blasted tunes (including the Halo soundtrack) to drown out two hours of whining. All hail the swear filter!

Hasn't this topic been discussed to death already? I've already seen this same topic plenty of times already.

immature misuse? most definitely

You say tomato; I say potato.

If you find it difficult to cope with the -blam!- filter, then you need to widen your vocabulary.
Great link.

Besides, what forums would you be using the word "nazі"?

Why don't you just give me ONE SECOND!

Good point. It's good that it's censored, (in a way) but it's bad, because it's a part of history.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

The only reason why I do not, and cannot, appreaciate the filter is the fact that it is forced upon me. Now, I'm a 19(soon to be 20) year old citizen that is in the military and I use swear words frequently among my peers. Obviously when I am around officers I 'filter' my own personal language. It is my choice to use the words or not, my desicion.

Now, I think that, just like the old bungie.net did, you should have the option to turn the swear filter off. If you are a registered user, it should be a choice you can make to turn off the filter.

Obviously if you are not signed in the filter is in effect and obviously the default setting for the option should be for it to be on.

I still don't understand why that freedom of choice was taken away from us with the new hotness.

1) -blam!- filter turned off.
2) Little kids ask their parents what -blam!- means.
3) Bungie is sued by distraught parents.
4) Bungie bankrupted. Halo 3 cancelled.
5) Civil Unrest.
6) Mass riots.
7) WWIII

Parents should be aware of what their kids are doing on the internet. Besides, most of the discussion revovles around a game that is Mature rated.

Those kids shouldn't be on here.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

Seconded.

But sadly, we have no rights, so all you can do is fire off a PM to Acronos asking him kindly to put in a on/off feature for the cursing filter.

Your in the military, arn't you used to an authoritarian environment? ;)

That's actually a great idea. Maybe it could ask what year you were born and if you're over 18 you can turn the filter on/off in the Settings Menu.

Sure people could easily lie to see the "naughty words", but then again they can easily turn off Google Safesearch and see "naughty sites" with "naughty words."

I believe it's fairly common in Seinfeld forums.

thanks for the explanation Recon, that puts some light to it. but although annoying, 1 day of making N@zi not a blammed word, would help the mods see who is stupid and immature and needs to be watched/bLed/kicked off. But it would be extremely annoying

Yes. Albeit not a swear, it does deal with (how can I euphemize this beyond all imagination?) a very racial subject, and when used by the wrong person, can be devastating.
