Taken From: Gamespy.com
But the biggest problem with the graphics -- and the entire game, for that matter -- is that you'll need a pretty powerful PC to run Halo at a steady clip. My main machine is a P2.54 GHz P4 with a GeForce 4 and 1GB of RAM, and I've been running new releases like TRON 2.0, Jedi Academy and Call of Duty at 1024x768 without so much as a stutter -- and that's with all the eye candy cranked up. But even at 800x600 with some of the details turned down, Halo still feels sluggish -- disappointing for a game that looked fantastic and ran fairly well on the Xbox two years ago.

Even if its getting 80% and 90%, game of the year, best game ever, this is an example why every people should read the reviews.

Halo for PC/Mac is very fun, I play it a lot on my Mac. I like the fact that I can play online free and I find aiming a little better with the mouse. However, nothing beats a good Halo party with 4 Xboxs and 15 other people you can't wait to drop in a game of CTF on Blood Gulch. Therefore, I pretty much love both versions.

About the gamespy thing. How in gods name can Halo be suggish on a comp like that!. I have a 17" iMac with a GeForce FX 5800 Ultra with 64 megs and it runs fine at 1024x768. I also pump my graphics to full, and the only time frames start slowing down is on a multiplayer game with 16 people. Something tells me this gamespy jackoff is kind of talking BS. and hell my Mac only goes about 2 ghz (w/ a gig of RAM =) so this guy at gamespy probably doesn't know gaming and graphics from his tiny genitals.

Reviews are only opinion of others so you will never be right or wrong about it. However if you say thats BS, then why did every game site reviewer said that Halo PC was really slow on their computer? Looks to me wasn't BSing at all other then just writing what he saw.

A matter of opinion yes, I think he may be doing something wrong on his settings. Besides, who cares if you can't get graphics running full and still have frames go smoothly, just tone them down and play. If your goal is to make the game look perfect, but won't play it when you can't make it look perfect, you are not a Halo fan.

I'm a PC "Halo" fan and if the game doesn't run properly or at full maximum speed, its like a insult to your PC version brother fans, then the game is considered trashed because right now, as it stands, the single player mode is even slower then the Xbox, and not alot of people are interested in buying an Xbox because most want the keyboard and a mouse control, not a controller.

My point is the game will only run slow if you have the graphics, resolution etc. set to more than your computer can handle (insult to your PC version brothers? It runs don't it? Maybe not at Xbox power but who cares?). By the way, your specs are pretty nice especially your ATI, but I never really liked PCs at all. Used to have one but got rid of it and bought the iMac, I think you should try one, I recomend the G5, it comes with the ATI 9800 and holds 8 gig RAM, the dual 2 gig processors are fast as hell too. But for a PC you're doing good...can I have the card?

Sure, if you have the x800 XT for trade :p. But yeah, the problem isn't also just graphic alone in Halo PC, its the shader and porting that was done extremely sloppy by Gearbox's part. I'll sum it up to you is that Halo runs alot better the Xbox, then on the PC alot with no frame rates lost while the PC, although watching down the corridor, the framerate is nice but when it gets heavy fighting then thats where the framerate just drops like a rock. Just terrible. Playing Legendary is hard because of the frames that moves like a slideshow picture, not because of the aliens or flood. I'm playing it right now at 1152x864 with ever function on my card turned to optimized, its running about 48-56fps, but when there is a script play like a Marine gets smashed by an alien then it becomes a picture slideshow.
