The Fall of Reach was pure GENIUS - Nylund really delivered, and set the standard for the books to come. BEST novel, in my opinion.
The Flood, which i'm actually reading again, for the third time, for NO reason, is actually kind of...redundant. And dumb. I HATE how Dietz put in quotes for the MC - he's more the strong, reserved, silent type to me, but Dietz turns him into a witty bad-pun-delivering Shwarzenegger character, and it's REALLY annoying. "Let of some STEAM, Bennet..." (seen Commando?) ALSO, how the dropships miraculously can caryy 30 PASSENGERS instead of the typical 10-15. It's STUPID. AND he describes the Shotgun as being a 12-guage - it's really an 8. (Play on campaign, pump a round into an enemy, reload, and pause the game - the flap you feed rounds into has a loop that looks pinched in the middle, with a dot to resemble the connection in the midsection, the the word "guage" beneath it.) Also, how the Chief goes through ALL of 343GS and the Library with his ASSAULT RIFLE. YAH FRELLING RIGHT!!! HE USES HIS SHOTGUN LIKE, 3 TIMES!!! IT"S STOOOPID!!! *ahem* ok, i'm done. It's really cool how he tells of the OTHER marines, Even the Covenant (check THIS out) and how exactly the Flood take over Jenkins and Keyes.
First Strike was pretty OK, but the Chief's in space like, THE WHOLE TIME. BUT we read what became of the rest of the SPARTANs, and also of my beloved Linda returning...
So yah. Good stuff.
