Yo dudez, I gots to dissagree wit you about Blender.
I've used Blender pretty heavily, and the thing about the Interface is that it doesn't get in your way. It's not like they are separate windows that obscure your 3D view or whatever else you're working on. Yeah, Blender's interface is different, but it has it's pros and cons. Most of Blenders functionality of power comes from using simple keyboard shortcuts.
Yeah, I guess it takes a while to learn what every button in the interface does, but you're only going to use a few of them.
I've never used any pro stuff though, so I guess I can't compare Blender to anything.
About the materials, the Halo 2 engine has no support for caustics, iridescences, fresnels, or light refraction (although the active camo effect can be argued to be light refraction). Those, currently, (and especially in the case of the Xbox) do not have practical realtime rendering methods. The Halo 3 trailer did demonstrate faked caustics (at least I think it was faked) by 'reflecting' light off the sand onto the MC.
And if you think it would be a better idea for Bungie to make their own tools for all the modeling, texturing, etc. functionality to include with Halo 2 Vista, that would be very unnecessary and a huge waste of time. As they said, even they don't use in-house tools for art asset creation.
Meh, if you want to make your own content, it it will take dedication to learn the tools, terminology, etc.
Edit: TUI_Obi_Wan sayz it goodz
