Fight hard, break bones >{o

if more forums where made they wouldnt help at all. saying "this thread is only for dedicated members who actually read all the posts!" wont help, look at the forums now, do half the people read the rules before posting? how about 1/5 of the people?

all that it would do is make another pointless forum. if they kept it secret by posting its location in the Rules thread, then maybe it would only have decent posts, but i still doubt it.

i think the mods should really get more moderators, but i guess its hard to find trustworthy people or something...
i wish they would just make a new forum and give a few people power of just that forum and then if it fails they can just shut it down and not worry. they wouldn't have to pay anyone as most of us here would do it for the enjoyment alone.

but its not gonna happen, at least not until after Halo3 and since this site is getting a make-over soon, im sure we wont see too many changes until then.

By number of people in the game, I mean should parties of two be allowed to be made and then combined into larger parties for other games... things like that, which would allow clans with fewer members to still play.

Yeah. I know. Don't worry.

I understand what you mean, that the numbers would be small is very credible, but when you combine the four or 5 clanmatch ones, with the ones for H2H, RHC, Team Swat, Team Carnage, Etc. they all add up to a functioning sub forum.

Or simply the one Optimatch forum. I honestly don't think there would be so many ideas or debates that 21 threads would be taken up by those dedicated threads. I also don't think that one very serious idea thread for Clanmatch would be as filled with replies as you are making it out to be. I tried searching again, thinking that perhaps my problem was that I was searching for ideas in the chocolate outer layer of the thread, when I really should have been looking in the nougat center. So I tried again, and found nothing, save for one member saying over and over again "Bring it back with Major and Minor." All that over another 7 or 8 pages. The rest was either "Bring it back," "It doesn't matter," some sort of debate about why it was removed, some sort of petty argument between people holding the two opposing views, or some other sort of nonsense. I'd guess that all took up about 97% of the pages, and I don't think the rest of the thread was much different. Take away repeated ideas, and you basically have 1% of the members actually discussing ideas, and thus 1% who would need that thread.

Then of course, you have other members talking about the other playlists, and I would imagine it would be easy to make one dedicated serious thread to those as well. Overall, you could take up all of the discussion with 8-10 threads. That leaves 11 more threads that are free for general discussion. Couple that with the fact that there seem to quite a few people who still either break the rules or don't post threads that are actually discussion for playlists or gametypes, wouldn't the Optimatch forum be able to handle all of that easily without a sub-forum?

It would be cool if new ideas were allowed to be implimented, the only issue, is that we all know that people wouldnt keep it in 8-10 threads like you are suggesting, as someone always comes in and makes a random clan thread as it is when they arent allowed. I was simply suggesting a subforum to keep the random threads in another area aswell. Anyways, I would be willing to try anything to make the exchange of ideas more do-able, but I just see a few problems in leaving it in optimatch, only due to the lack of intelligence in members, not due to the functionality of the idea.

But the problem won't be alleviated with a sub-forum. Stupid people will still be able to get in, and will still be able to mess things up. The only real difference is that now moderators have to look over two forums instead of one.

If you check Jeremiah's Group list, you will see he created a Group called "Optimatch". The conversation is much more civil there, and believe it or not, Jeremiah does read the threads.

It's worth mentioning, that subjects which fall under the category of Optimatch "Hot Topics" are banned from discussion in the private Optimatch group. That group is spam-free (with the exception of one thread) and approval for membership involves the equivalence of a background check for the users activity on Bungie.Net. There's no flaming or off-topic spam because I have no tolerance for it.

The "Hot Topics" sticky thread and dedicated discussion threads are sufficient for discussing the issues that are assigned to them.

Clanmatch and Head to Head, for example, are currently closed issues. What I mean by that is, we have no plans to implement those types of playlists again in Halo 2, unless that changes there is no sufficient reason to muck up the rest of the Optimatch forum with threads from repeat spammers.

The dedicated threads were created because people abused their ability to discuss those issues on the forum.

The dedicated Team SWAT thread, on the other hand, exists due to the current possibility of implementation. Discussion being focused in one thread allows more participants to be heard by me, which is much more productive than 100 different Team SWAT several pages back in the forum.

To be perfectly honest, if there was a sub-forum for closed issues such as Clanmatch and Head to Head, I wouldn't even read it. I would continue to monitor the dedicated threads because it is much more time efficient. I don't have time to troll the forums all day long, I have many other tasks that are of a higher priority than repeating the same statements in 40 different Clanmatch/H2H threads every day.

Quick question... if, somehow a good idea to solve all of the problems found in clanmatch was made, would you impliment it, or would it still be a dead idea?

It would depend on the viability of the idea. Whether or not it would require new code or user interface elements (it most likely would) and whether or not it would be worth the resources at this point.

If I am offered X amount of developer resources, you can be assured that I would direct them towards things such as improved cheating detection, ban tools, bug fixes... not something like clan functionality.

That is not to say that I'm not interested in hearing such ideas, but there are far more important issues that could be addressed.

but the difference is that when people make dumb threads in this forum it wouldnt really matter, as the legit ones would be discussed and stay at the top while the rest fell to the bottem. The forums, other then dealing with spammers, would clean themselves in a way.

How is that different to the normal forum?
