I know this isn't strictly related to Halo: Camobat Evolved but how many Halo novels are there?
I have read Fall of Reach and The Flood and I know of First Strike but are there even more after that?

There's Halo The Fall of Reach, The Flood, The First Strike, and Ghosts of Onyx, all by Eric Nylund, except the flood.

The Fall of Reach is the story before Halo: Combat Evolved and reveals how the Master Chief got his fancy armour.

The Flood is the story of what happens during the events that took place in Halo: Combat Evolved from the Covenants' perspective and the perspective of other marine units scattered around Halo.

The First Strike is the storyline between Halo:Combat Evolved and Halo 2 and shows where the Master Chief went after he destroyed Halo, and how he stopped the Covenant from destroying Earth and saving a few Spartans in the process.

Ghosts of Onyx is an alternate story of what's going on during the events of the first three novels and the two games. lt shows how a Spartan (not mention in The Fall of Reach, but still there) trains a group of Spartan lll's on a planet called Onyx. When the Master Chief destroys Halo, something deep within this planet awakens. l won't spoil anything else for you.

Go buy them and read them - they're really good.

Thanks for that. I'm currently re-reading the first two.
Are the books the official story-line of Halo? I mean is it confirmed that other Spartans survived?

I am...whimsical today.

They are written with the aid of the Halo Story Bible, and can be considered canon.
However, the Games are the main canonical source, so if something in the books clashes with the games, and it's not simply a mistake then the game version is considered the 'real' version.

Yeah, Bungie wouldn't let the books be written if they didn't follow their storyline. lf it says it in the book, you can bet it's true.
