How did you first get it, how and why? were you planning it? etc

I got an xbox for Christmas of 2001. About a month later, I wanted to buy myself some more games at Toys R Us, I saw many games, but nothing of compelling interest. Until I saw this one with a big green guy holding a large automatic weapon at my face, a jeep and alienesque vehicles in the backround, and what seems to be a "superstructure", even though I had no idea it was part of the land. On the front was stamped "Halo: Combat Evolved" in fancy font, so i was like meh, this looks cool. I thought it would just be another average game.

So, I popped it into the Xbox and I was like wow, how is a game like this even possible? I've been hooked since then. And to think I got the game entirely by luck.

What's your story?

Same story.

I found it at a local EB Games store when it was still one of those demos for the Xbox consoles in the stores. I fell in love with it when I first played it. Every time I went to the mall I would spend as much time as I could just playing the demo (I think it was only for the first half of "Silent Cartographer". I got an Xbox the same day that actual game came out and played it constantly; with friends, by myself, late into the night, early in the morning before school (I was still in middle school! God I feel old now). I -blam!- a brick when I found out there was going to be a sequel and I preordered a Special Edition of Halo 2. Got that the day it came out and Xbox live after I beat the campaign all the way through. Me and my friends all had Xbox live accounts and would be in matchmaking together constantly...until that dark and fateful day when the standbyers/modders started showing up...(shudders)

After that, I was practically the only one still playing Xbox Live as my friends got tired of the cheaters and moved on to other games (World of Warcraft, blech!). Now, I just play the campaigns every now and then for fun and to warm up before tournaments/lan parties.

I can't believe this, but I learned about Halo, a game everyone was talking about, 2 years after it launched. I was at somebody's house and one person said "Play Halo (PC version)." They played it, but I wasn't stunned. One year later, I was thinking about getting my first console, yes FIRST console. It turned out to be an Xbox because people around me said it had good graphics (I first thought graphics were the most important part of a game) and this amazing game called Halo. I didn't get Halo when I got my Xbox, so I had to wait a few more months. Halo 2 arrived, so I played that first and beat it. It was awesome! It was finally my time to play Halo 1, and I've been a Halo fan ever since.

Pretty much same thing here.

lol, i always heard my friends talking about marines on a space station, and i pictured like a bunch of astronauts floating around on a random flat space ship

but then i went to someones house and we played, but we were like 8, and he didnt really understand the story, and he told me that at the end keyes betrays you and reveals that he is a covenant, so when we first got the pistol i walked up to keyes and shot him in the face

It was in 2005, when I was playing with someone on Sacred Icon. When the Containment Field went down, a wave of plama arced over the diamond wall, and Tartarus flew his phantom over my head, I knew I had to buy every game in the series. That moment is still my favorite part of any game.

Interesting. I'm glad you're more observant than I am, haha, I didn't notice that until like my 20th time through and then all of my friends called me names. But it is really cool. Fo sho.

If I had a Rocket Launcher...

Shut up and get behind me... Sir!

The cable. I'm going to cut it.

Awesomeness would ensue.

I played Marathon back in the day, and noted that Halo was developed by (gasp) Bungie, and decided to give it a shot.

I actually came across Halo as my first ever FPS. I wasn't really into gaming much until I met a neighbor kid that moved into a house about 200yds from mine (I live in the country). The first time we hung out at his place, we played Halo, a game that he always raved about. I sucked horribly at it, as I'd never played a fps before. Basically we just played coop & LAN/Splitscreen a bunch until I got better at it. I've never owned an Xbox or a 360 (don't ever plan to either). I've never actually owned Halo either until about a year ago when a [different] friend gave me the PC version. By that time, I was already a seasoned PC gamer from BF1942, BF2, and the CoD series (the same neighbor introduced me CoD1 and PC gaming) as well as playing Halo & Halo 2 on Xbox. Right now, I play Live sometimes at his house, and PC when home (though I dread the lag in MP, and therefore don't play often).

I'm just patiently awaiting H2 Vista to play seriously.

My brother got me an Xbox for Christmas one year. He also bought a couple of games for me, but both sucked. I looked around on the internet to see what was available, and what people were saying about them. Halo looked like a popular game, and everyone sang its praises, so I bought it. Wow...I'd never played a game that sucked me in like that. And, it has never let go.

I enjoyed it so much I did some research and found a way to play it online. I got up earlier to run down to the computer store to get the cables to hook my XBox to the internet. I had NO idea what I was doing. I was getting killed from all directions and many times had no idea who was even shooting at me. But, I loved every minute of it. I had already had a couple friends over to play the storyline, and they ran right out and bought an XBox and Halo CE. So, now that I figured out how to play Halo on the internet, I invited them over to play. Niether of them wanted to play it online...lol They had never played a game online, and I think they were afraid of making fools of themselves. Well, they got hooked to. We'd spend weekend after weekend, sometimes 12 hours a day playing nothing but Halo CE online. What an amazing time. The fun, the screaming!

Later we went to a couple tournaments. We were never pros, or even elites. But, it allowed us to enjoy the game for the first time with others who had just as much passion as us. We were pretty good though. Only problem is we played in an area that at the time, had 3 of the 4 best 2 man teams in the world, including TDT Darkman. So, we never had a chance...but still enjoyed every second of it.

I came upon Halo after I saw Red vs Blue, after seeing the first 10 episodes I decided to buy it and have loved it since. I like Halo PC versions more then console. I'm more of a Keyboard and Mouse kind of person.

50s in: Slayer, Doubles, Lone Wolves, Objective, Ranked BTB, Swat, Snipers.

I first played it at my cousin's house. I was about 13 and was so amazed by Max Payne and the Matrix style slow-mo bullets, that when i put in Halo, i was just like "Eh, this seems like a pretty cool game. Maybe i'll buy this too." So, i bought an xbox, played max payne for about 10 mins, then popped in halo and have been playin almost nonstop ever since!
