Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Well, as a couple of you know now, I have a comp with some decent parts, but with an utterly crap video (integrated) and Mobo. Got my PC from HP.

Well, I wanted to just upgrade and get a 7900GT and X25000+ but I remembere'd my PC's power supply is only 300w....

So, I will need to get a new power supply. BUT, since I got an HP (big mistake), it will likely only allow for a specific kind of HP Power Supply into the case...so, I need a new case too.

Why am I going to upgrade? Well, I want to be able to play Halo 2 Vista (Im an achievement whore, Live anywhere FTW) and Crysis.

So....what I was thinking of getting, now:
$220 AMD Athlon X2 4600+ w/ Free Rainbow Six: Vegas
$200 XFX Geforce 7900GT (256Mb) w/ Free Tombraider: Legend
$110 Ultra X2 Windowed Midtower case w/ 550w Modular PSU

I will be able to transfer my Mobo and 250Gb HDD in there fairly easily, right? When I get some more moola, I will upgrade my Mobo and buy either a second HDD or another 7900GT to use in SLI (Since I dont want to drop $500 on an 8800). Maybe add another Gig of RAM, for a total of 3Gb.

If someone wants to point a good Mobo that I can use for SLI, that would be Grrrrreat!

I figure I could play Halo 2 Vista pretty darn well on that. Halo CE hands down, lol. Crysis too after the second upgrade?

First problem I see is the chip is an AM2 slot chip and I bet your mobo is not. What kind of processor slot does your mobo have? You need to find that out first. While your at it find out what graphics slot that mobo has, AGP or PCI-Ex. The card you picked is PCI-Ex and you need to make sure it will go into the mobo. That case is a monster, you can fit server boards in there. The 550W PS should be more then enough.

that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

nice. very nice.

I too am looking forward to purchasing a new PC,

as mine is crap.

plus...Halo 2 vista, and Crysis...

*drools at the thought of Crysis*

its just so good.

I have an X24200+ so Im all good, just swapping out the processors. I may sell the old one to my school, or use it in my old, crappy PC with a P4 lol.

I have one free PCIe and two PCI slots on this Mobo...JW, how and what do I need to connect my PSU to? And how do I know it has enough plugs?

OH you will have enough plugs, in fact your biggest challenge will be how to tie up and stow the extra ones. That case has room for like 10 hard drives and it will have power plugs for all of them. Thats a lot of money for a case but it is worth it. It's light as crap and a dream to work with because of the roominess inside and the pull out Mobo tray.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Why HP? Dell would have given you a much better deal. Can't go wrong with the Dimension desktops!

INCASE H2V has HDR Lighting, you might want to get an ATI Card. Nvidia 7 series cards Cannot do HDR and AA (anti-aliasing) at the same time. however, the 8 series can, along with ATI's X1k series.

If I had two 7900GTs in SLI, could one do AA and the other HDR?

Thats a very nice case, but it only includes the bay for a 120 mm fan, make sure you get a fan to put in there to keep everything cool. Very nice case. Should make a sweet computer.

Also how do they measure the processing speed of a dual core processor. Cause I have a 2 core Pentium 4, 2.8GHz and want to know how much worse it is then dual core from Intel and AMD.

There is no such thing has a dual core Pentium 4

Hook them up to the leads that come from the power supply

Ill do a more detailed write up on your parts and such later.

Do you guys think it would be better for me to get one 8800GTS instead of the 7900GT? That thing is like 3 or 4 hundred compared to the 7900's 200 buckaroonies....

Alrighty...well, I hope the 8800GTS drops by like 100-150 in the next few months...any chance of that? Lol.

And I dont think H2V will be too taxing on a GPU or CPU...whatabout you guys?

Will an X2 4600+ bottleneck my 8800GTS?

In my opinion, don't get an 8800GTS, yet. Get a "hold over" card (maybe an ATI 1900GT for $145) and wait until ATI/Nvidia's midrange DX10 cards come out. If you got an 8800 right now, in my opinion, it would be pretty much a waste, because there are no DX10 Games out yet, and by the time there are, your 8800GTS will be out dated.
By doing this, you can upgrade to a DX10 card in 6-8months when there are actually DX10 games out.
And yes, the 4600X2 would bottleneck your 8800

I donno if I want to spend money on any graphics cards until Crysis comes out, Im not really an avid PC gamer...thanks for the advice though, I think I will definately wait until they release more cards. 6-8 months, though? Nothing sooner?

I may just get an 8800GTS or GTX when the price drops (couple months?), because the only PC games I will probably be playing are Halo, Crysis, Bioshock and Halo 2....

What kind of CPU do you think I'd need for one of those next-gen GPU's...?

Most DX10 Games are slated for the second half of 2007....

I'd definitely get nothing less than a Core 2 Duo if you're going to get a 8800GTS/X

Core 2 Duos are just like the equivalent of the Athlon X2 though...both dual core.

But I heard Core 2 Duo are better...my Mobo doesnt support them, it is AM2. Maybe I will just keep my RAM and HDD and scrap everything else (sell my processor) and upgrade everything else, including the Mobo?

Why would you go quad core? Barely any games utilize dual core...

Unless, of course, you want a bigger e--blam!-.

I need to upgrade my Mobo after this first upgrade, but I have no clue what the stuff I have needs, i.e. PCI or PCIe.

I know my G8# graphics will be PCIe, but Im not sure about my HDD, Soundcard (will be getting one in my second wave of upgrades), etc.
