GT: Greg Is So Hot

Is it going to take a render farm to build them? Or just a really, really boring 48 hours...

From what I've tried in Source [HalfLife 2, CS:S], you can do the same style lighting [radiosity, volumes of light instead of just points], but the trade-off is that a small room with a single light takes 25 minutes to build...

Cool lighting(~25 minutes)
Not so cool lighting(~7 seconds)

I've never really mapped for Halo:CE, so I wouldn't know what the norm is.

lightmaps at highest quality can take around a day or 2. However, most people run low quality lightmaps, and there is not much of a visible difference.

Can anyone here rig up a networked renderer system that works like the system SETI has set up to decode and analize all the data they are getting from their radio telescopes?

Who knows, may help...

Thats what a render farm is. Radiosity is processor intensive. The H1 method is probably old and slower than more recent ones, but you can only get so fast. Radiosity is by far the best lighting method for static lights, and you will just have to deal with the time it takes.

Valve's made a program sort of like that, so you can set up a bunch of systems to compile everything over a LAN connection... I'd think an internet connection would cause things to fall out of sync and start building redundant info, start snowballing collisions and corrupting things.
But, who knows. Maybe. Hopefully.

Nah, and internet connection would just make it slower. There shouldn't be any redundancy.
