Ok, I don't realy talk like that. But I'm sure I atracted a few flamers, that might accidentaly, actualy help someone on this forum. My question is, when I put the vista program on my computer, what will happen to my old files? I'm deffinatly not going to buy a new computer for this, I plan on putting in more memory, and other things like that, and popping in the vista disk. But will I keep my old stuff? I mean, will I have to re-download everything(etc, etc)?

EDIT: also, do you think that vista/halo2pc will be on a DVD drive disk? or can i just use the CD drive thingy (now-a-days, to prevent video games from being 5 disks per game, they make them DVD drive so you can use one disk)

I like to call it a "backup".

Vista will backup the contents of your Documents and Settings folder to a windows.old folder. I can't remember exactly where its located. You will have to re-install all of your programs and some may not work in Vista.

I hope I can transfer all my videos, photos, music, and other programs safely to Vista. It's never the amount of money that bothers me if I switch to a new operating system or upgrade some parts, it's whether or not the files stay with me.

Ditto for me. I've got files that I've had for a half decade. I've got some tunes from before Napster died that I won't be able to replace. And I've got mods and stuff for games that aren't even online anymore.

I do believe in some cases you can do an in-place upgrade which will keep your files and applications as seen here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeinfo.ms px

But of course that is not advised since many problems can crop up.

I don't trust those transfer programs.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

I'm just gonna stick my entire "My Documents" folder on a portable HDD, along with all the installers for my software and stuff, then do a clean install. Safest.

Fun Fact!

Windows Vista has been pirated already! (Secondhand experience!)

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

For anyone who hasn't experienced the pleasure of hard disk failure, copy all your valuables to CD or DVD. That's how I back my stuff up, and it can save a lot of hassle when you... switch from Win98 to XP a dozen times to get some old games working. You get my drift.
