I was duking it off with Nessy. 3 to 1 average, 25 to 8 to be exact, and my ping was 133 and his was 33, it made a difference. Whatever the ping though, he still would've won. That's besides the point.

While I was playing, I was KILLED BY THE GUARDIANS!?

WHAT THE HELL?!

Bungie, I've never seen this in my LIFE on Halo PC! Only Halo 2?!

What's going on?

Maw

It happens when two people kill each other at the same time.
I think.

There is also a trainer(?) that can cause a Guardian kill if its run on the server. No, Nessy, I am not accusing you of cheating.

Edit: Instead of @(*)#? you could just put -blam!-. Its easier to pronounce.

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

No it doesn't say killed by the guardians if two players kill each other at the same time.

Yes it does. When two players kill each other at the same time usually with a melee there is a glitch and the program doesn't know who killed one so it says that the guardians did. In my sig click the My Halo movies link and play the Messing Around73 movie. In there you will see me and TUI~ZeN~ melee each other at the same time. I'm credited with killing him but it says that I was killed by the guardians

"Screenshots or it didn't happen!" J/k. What was the map and gametype that you played him in?

You've never seen this before? Dude, the Guardians have been in every game, and will probably make a reappearance in Halo 3. Not that big of a deal.

Im rpetty certain it can only happen with a melee, the first person is killed, and since the melee lasts more than an instant after the guy is dead the other player is hit with the END of the melee. Now you can kill someone with a grenade or a bullet after you are dead, but not a melee, thus the guardians receive credit.

Yes, it's usually meleeing. It happens all the time, really. When two people kill each other at the exact same time, and if the server's latency is high, it's not uncommon for the server being unable to figure out who killed who, so the guardians is there as a replacement.

I rarely have it occur with weapon melee kills. But I have it every time I hit a guy with the flag when he hits me with a melee. I always get the kill, and get killed by the guardians.

And it's not just meleeing, but any kill where the game is unable to determine who killed who, whether due to some glitch in the system or maybe some random error.

Set up a game of rockets in Blood Gulch, tell someone to stand on top of the opposite base that you're standing on. Tell him to fire a rocket at you and then tell him to leave the game. After he leaves, and after the rocket finally blows you up, the server won't be able to tell who killed you, since the person who fired the rocket left. Because you obviously didn't fall from a height, the game simply substitutes with "You were killed by the Guardians".

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

The crowd goes wild. Mission accomplished!

yep, it's very common on halo xbox no shields games, as well. I find it usually happens when 2 people melee, and person A is killed, but as he's falling and dead, his melee animation is still going, and it kills person B, and thus confuses the game.
