(This is the Maw, dealing with the PC stuff, I believe this is the right place to post this.)

Well, yeah. Some students at my school, from my TV productions class, are going to Miami for this Ultra Music Festival in March. We need to be able to operate video toasters pretty well, as 12 of us will have control of the screens the audience sees on four to six of the stages.

What do the students get out of it? Well, our teacher will be paying the ones who are on the "small" stages $1200 a day, and the ones on the "big" stages $1400 a day. We will be there three days.

So, If I am chosen, I will probably be on the small stage. Guess what that means? $3600 bucks for me!

What am I going to spend it on? A car? College? Breast implants for a hot chick? Naw! Paintball, Games and Computers, baby!

I will set aside around $600 for Paintball, and spend around $2800 making the ultimate computer, save the rest for just your ever-day-thing. What am I going to be getting for my PC?

(Keep in mind the price I actually spend on this will go down, as some better stuff will be out in March, the time of this event, so the stuff I see now will go down in price)

Here's a list.

Case: Apevia X-Pleasure ATX Midtower w/ Window and LCDs
Power Supply: OCZ GameXStream 850-Watt
Motherboard: EVGA nForce 680i SLI NVIDIA Socket 775
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz
Video Card: XFX GeForce 8800GTX w/ Free gaming Headset
Disk Drive: Sony 16x DVD-ROM / 40x CD-ROM / Black
DVD Burner: Sony DRU-120C Multi-Drive
Harddrives: Seagate / 500GB / 7200 / 16MB / ATA-100
Memory: Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048 Gb PC6400 800MHz
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Monitor: AOC 19'' LCD
Keyboard: Gear Head PS/2 119-Key Internet/Multimedia Keyboard
Gaming Mouse: Already have a Wireless one for this.

I may also buy a couple of Xbox 360 controllers (one just for my PC) as my two wireless ones broke, and I only have two wired ones to split between my two Xbox 360s. I may also downgrade some of the paintball stuff so I can afford an iPhone...hehe.

What do you guys think? Would that be a good route? I really wouldnt have to upgrade in a while...or ever. Crysis is scaling back three years (and ahead one year), so it on low settings will look like Far Cry on max. Can you imagine games in three years, on low settings, looking like Crysis on max? I can definately deal with that.

Get a better power supply. the Ultra X-Connects are garbage. look for a good brand like PC power and cooling. OCZ, sparkle, antec, FSP, fortron

Ah, look at the lonely people...

You may want to pick up a lead radiation-shield vest for using that thing.

Everything looks good in it except for the procesor and power supply
the PS has been covred but look into a better procesor but wait for AMDs new one that there coming out with i forget what it is but AMD has always been known for better gaming procesors i can compare my 2.4 ghz amd athllon to one of the newer intel chips its still faster. At least thats my perspective but go wiuth what ever chipset u want

You mat want to overclock the processor (or just get a different one). 2.4 GH isn't going to be much soon. Even FEAR wants 3 GH recommended.

I didn't check specifics, but make sure your mobo will support PCI-E.

People always tell me Intels are better, but I have an Athlon now, and it works pretty well. I was going to go for a 500o or 5200, but I was checking out the Intel 6600...which would be better?

E6600 or the X2 5000?

Geez, when I first saw the thread title, I was wondering what kind of OEM would sell for that much.

AMD chips have been known to have better architecture and from what I've heard, live up better to advertised clockspeeds than do Intel chips. However, they have been surpassed by Intel chips in terms of sheer, raw clockspeed.

Have you heard of the core 2 duos yet or are you that behind?

I actually would like some input too, core or amd? AMD tends to be easier to config, but 99% of people are saying to go core2duo, as they win in sheer power.

$3,600? I always thought that if one was to spend $3,000 on a computer, it would probably say Cray on the front.

Staticx is right, the Intel core duos are outperforming the AMD's even in gaming where AMD used to own Intel. AMD will have an answer but probably not until the summer. I think AMD is looking to integrate the GPU into the CPU, that is why they bought ATI last year. I'm curious to see how that works out.

Its not that hard. certain things can only plug into the corresponding slot. Its like building something out of LEGOs

And yes I also say go for an Intel chip.

And get a integrated chipset for your graphics. its the best!

Just don't get an Athlon. I just watched a video on how if the heating falls off, the board melts in less than a second, with the chance of fire...

That video has freaked me out, I'm afraid to budge my own computer in case my heatsink comes off....

It's fine, but I'd wait for the upcomming ATI solution. For the time-waited/preformance, it's well worth it.

Edit: Actually, it really all depends on the resolution of your monitor. If that 19" is any less than a 1600x1200, you should go for the GTS. There wont be anything that will give you less than 60fps at that resolution for more than three years.
