Now, I've been working on this script and ideas on it for about two months. And even though it is FAR from completion, I think it's ready to show to the MAW so they can get an idea of what I'm doing.

It's a drama in Halo 2 vista using only custom maps. It's kind of like Halo CE chronicles except with a darker story line and none of that caring crap. It takes place in the year 2603, and the covenant war is still going on through out the galaxy. The spartan project is all the way up to the Spartan V's, and each new group has become more promising. But the covenant are still winning by a huge margin, each month or two another planet falls to their mighty fleets.

When the planet of Sanctuary is given up to the enemy, thousands of solders are trapped on it's surface. The story follows a spacific platoon of Spartans traped on the planet, and their quest to free them selfs, and as many other men they can find.

The script is currently only at Episode 6, it will probably hit 16 by the time I'm done (if I ever get any free time to writ it -_-). And what IS done can be located here. It does have a few spelling and grammar errors but nothing that should ruin the reading.

Keep in mind, I am not looking for a cast or people to help me. I'm simply looking for feedback by the MAW comunity. But some extra help would be nice, the company I'm working on with this is kind of a newbie co-operation and can't get resorces because of our lack of rep. So if you can it would be nice to help out. Iceburg Inc.

First I would talk to Dennis Powers over at the Halomaps site, he has a account here as UXB. He put together the HaloCE Cronicles and will be able to let you know what it takes to put together something like this. I imagine its a hell of a lot harder then you think. I'm sure he is planning something along the same lines you are thinking so maybe you guys can work together.

i just read the first episode... it was alright. plenty of action and i think thats what people want to see.

but as previously mentioned, machinima's are a LOT of work. i don't know if you've ever done any in the past. i haven't, so maybe my opinion doesn't count for much, but i think you're going to have a hell of a time re-creating the initial space-battle/crash-landing sequence accurately.

ive barely touched halo2 for xbox so i have no idea what kind of cut-scene's could be available for h2 vista, but that opening sequence is pretty vivid. i'd be surprised and pretty impressed if you could digitally re-create it with the same level of detail.

just my opinion.

We've got a fair idea how were gonna do that, it needs a bit of work. The space and pelican stuff is completly digital, I got an editor who will do it for me. The falling from the sky is a green screen effect, we'll have a dead body, and a bunch of wind going down, but the way we angle and shake the camera, it won't look like he's dead and we'll have a pretty cool looking shot.

The action is gonna require pure hardcore cinimatography, so far I'm the only one who's gonna do it because I have yet to find a person who I can trust to get those kinda shots.

There wasn't enough of that caring crap in the script for me to be interested in working with him [LOL]

In all seriousness here are a couple of tips to help anyone who wants to do machinima.

1) Start with a full script - the story MUST have a beginning, middle and end. A three act play with all the dialogue and basic screen direction.

2) Know your game engine. You need to know the limitations. Just as in real film making where you have a budget be it time or money there is only so much you can do. The game engine sets the limitations of your story. Learn them and know what you can do within them to tell your story. For example: the space battle in scene 1 is nearly impossible to do within the game engine without major modifications or a totally custom map or 3D modeling. Sometimes you need to change the story to fit the limitations of the game engine.

3) Learn basic script writing. The first step is to conform to the established writing format. This helps you think in the correct terms. Read a book on script writing. As a start get a template for a screenplay. There are a word templates available http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=s creenplay&av=TPL000

4) Have plenty of time to do it. Take a guess at how long to will take to film and edit then double that and then double that. It will always take longer than you think.

5) Record the dialog first. Don’t try to do it in game. Then film the scene to match the dialogue and or music.

I won't comment on the merits of the script, that is for you to decide, I tend to write for an older audience so pure action for action's sake is boring to me. I tend to be more interested in the characters motivation then in their actual actions so in my stories,if there is a battle you know why not just how. You know; all the caring crap [smile]

Machinima is much easier to do today than it was before and I wish everyone well with their machinima projects. Just remember that as machinima becomes more accessable more of it is made so you need to be distinctive.

Thanks for the advice. And about the plot, note to everyone, the first 4 episodes are kinda plot useless, 5-16 will have a heavy plot line. And if your intrested or want to help, contact Iceburg or e-mail me. nerdgasam@yahoo.com

Dude the edit button is there for a reason, so you can add information without double posting. If the mods see this topic they will most likely lock it and let it fall to the depths.

You may want to put some plot in the first 4 episodes because you need to grab the viewers attention or they will not continue with the story. I almost lost interest in the HaloCE Chronicles at first because he really didn't grab me, too much soft stuff. ;) I forget what it was that finally sucked me in.

Throwing in my two cents...there aren't too many Halo machis for a good reason. I think UXB mentioned this in brief, but in short, the Halo engine is difficult as fsck to work with. It's not the most flexible thing in the world, since it was obviously designed more for gameplay than it was for movie making.

I do commend your efforts though, just...be prepared for a long time.

Of corse it's a rough draft, in total we've only been working on it for about 5 hours. No advanced textures, we are adding more a variety of buildings, it's in it's begining fase, but thats the BASIC layout for ep 1 and part of 2.
