Well, they both have good and bad points. I thought Halo 1's environments seemed more "real" or more believable than Halo 2's. However, I also think Halo 1's environments and levels can get very repetitive, and I think this is something that they fixed well in Halo 2, with the wide range of locations and better level design. Again, however, I think Halo 1's levels had a more epic feel to them. The pistol in Halo 1 was good, but sometimes overpowering. Halo 2's pistol felt underpowered, and was only very effective duel-wielding. So, I don't think you can really say one is better over the other, both have their respective strengths and weaknesses.
