Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I've seen dozens and dozens of Gears of War vs Halo topics, and I don't think that's exagerating. They really have no point, and are annoying. They are the same thing over and over....Master Chief vs Fenix, UNSC vs Locusts, etc.

I know I'm not in a position to say what should and shouldn't be locked, but those topics should be locked. It wouldn't be so bad if there was only like 1 or 2 a week, but I'm seeing 2 a day!

I'd like to know if anyone else feels the same way I do about this.

Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

It's pretty much split 50/50... although you don't hear me saying anything about them.

There's a "Do not feed the trolls" sign for a reason, ya know...

I am...whimsical today.

There's nothing you can do if they're in the right Forum.
If they're not then let them die.

Really, I don't think any of the forums really fit for Gears v. Halo.

New Mombasa is for halo 2, not Halo 2 comparison to other games. If the thread was something like "Is the gears form of taking cover better than halo's" I could see it being legit but "could the Master Chief beat Fenix in a fistfight" should really not be here pretty much anywhere.

I prefer to lock them. If the locust can beat the UNSC isn't exactly on topic. Admitted, in the past few days I've kinda been ignoring them, all of the forums actually. :/

"And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former
master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can
to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this
will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions. But I
would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall
be my example." -Mendicant Bias

I don't think the problem is too bad, they come up just a bit too often.

However, you have to remember Bungie makes Halo, and Halo is a Sci-Fi game, as well as Gears of War. So, you have to factor in that on a mostly Sci-Fi board, it really is not surprising that Gears of War comes up so often.

Just ignore them; that's what l do. lf people want to talk about stuff like that, who are you to tell them not to? l hope it doesn't sound like l'm coming off as a jerk, because l'm not trying to, but live and let live, you know?

I've noticed that there've been few mods on the forums lately. What is with that

You want to know what it'd be like to have no moderators on this site? Try this easy to prepare simulation.
Step 1: Procure yourself an intact box, something a fridge or similarly large appliance.
Step 2: Fill cardboard box halfway with feral cats. One or two should be rabid.
Step 3: Climb inside the box, closing the top behind you.
Step 4: Begin screaming and thrashing wildly at the cats.

There are...enough mods I think to prevent chaos, but if you are expecting off-topic threads to be locked within minutes if a mod isn't even contacted you will always be dissapointed.

As to the GoW vs. Halo threads, if that is what people want to discuss (given it is civilized and in the right forum) I don't see a problem with it.

I completely agree that mods do their best to keep the forums clean... It just seems that within the last few days, there's been less moderator activity (and inversely more open spam topics) in the Halo 3 forum. Perhaps just a fluke, but I just wish there was something I could do about it....

I just can't see the point of such threads. GoW and Halo are totally different games.
A mod posting a fairly agressive warning to people starting GoW vs Halo threads may help...?

Pointless and annoying though they may be, they are there and they have semi-valid reasons to be.

I can understand debates about the games formed on the basis of reasonable discussion.

I can also understand discussions based on interesting concepts that bridge the two game worlds.

I don't like hearing topics where people try to PROVE that one game is superior using a purely subjective argument, such as "Using cover is more realistic than running around shooting". These arguments assume that the player wants a game based more around creative use of cover than one around creative tactical movement.

This argument boils down to the whole concept of "to each his own".

A bit of a coincidence I think. I've been doing quite a bit of stuff lately, and didn't feel like moderating all that much. I think the others are busy as well.

I think Bungie should be honored that people keep comparing the new hot game to Halo. It means that the gaming world still sees Halo as The game for all other games that have come after it to compete against for their love and respect.

Also remember, that this is not a new trend. Since November of 2004, there have been hundreds and hundreds of threads comparing Halo and {insert so called Halo killer game here}. Gears justs happens to be the flavor of the month, and it too will pass.

But to expect the mods to lock such threads because you find them annoying? Not very cool for the people who do like to discuss the merits of both games.

I'm just saying leave 1 or 2 popular ones open, not to lock them all.

Popular Gears threads die out, just like any thread. Then new ones are made, with different posters and maybe new opinons. So are you saying to sticky a Gears thread so that no other Gears threads should be made?

I just don't get your point ODST. What I read is you think there are too many Halo vs. Gears threads, so please lock some, all, none? Why not just leave it up to the ninjas to do their job?

Just ignore them. They're not going to kill you.

I have to live with them as well. I have a 360 with Gears of War, and nobody really can compare the two games as for they are for two totally different consoles.

That's why you stay here, in The Septagon.

I've challenged my beliefs. What is the book about?

I find that this is usually untrue. If religious people honestly, diligently and intelligently challenged their beliefs, there would be no religious people.

I agree. If people think that Master Chief could own Fenix in a battle, don't expect their opinions to change 5 minutes later :P
