I noticed everyone seems to be asking about thier possible new computer, so I decided to join in the fun! :D I have been researching this kit for about a month now, and was wondering what you guys think? I won't be able to afford it for another month though. I will mostly be using it for video editing, but gaming will also be important. Suggestions?

lol internet

You're going to want to get a graphics card for that, which will run the cost up around $600

Yeah, I'm looking at this video card and this RAM . I won't be able to afford the video card for about 3 weeks after I buy it though.

You are going to want to get some ddr2 667mhz+ ram.

Also, you might want an optical drive, if you ever want to install a game.

You may also want to consider getting a Hard Drive, to store stuff.

Finally I would suggest you get an operating system such as Microsoft Windows XP or Vista.

A few other things you probably already have for it:

Monitor
Speakers
Keyboard
Mouse

That RAM is ok, the video card is overpriced though, I'd suggest a X1950Pro, or X1950XT if you want to spend a bit less...

I'm taking one of my hard drives from this computer (80 gig) for now. I'm taking the DVD burner and replacing it with an old CD burner.

It looks like the 667 mhz RAM is the same price (???). I guess this looks better. From what i hear, Kingston's pretty good. Any advice on RAM would be appreciated. : )

As for the OS, I am a little confused. This is what I was looking at. Is that a good descision? I want Vista, but it dosn't say what version of it I would get. Not only that, but I assume it would be OEM also. That means I would never be able to reformat. Any help on that would be mega super duper uber appreciated. Thanks!

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

The system itself is meh. The other stuff is not bad. I say go for it.

Yes I can help you out. What that package includes is Windows XP Professional. Because it is so close to the Vista release, that package will also include a voucher for the cheapest Vista. They did this to not discourage people buying XP right now. Otherwise about 2 months ago, people would have basically stopped buying computers and waited for Vista to release before buying a new computer. So once vista releases, you take that voucher to your nearest computer retailer and hand it to them. they will give you a copy of Vista for free and then just turn in that coupon to Microsoft to get reimbursed. Then you just back up what programs and stuff you want, then reformat, then install Vista as your primary OS. Then reinstall all your programs and stuff. What I would suggest though is waiting the day and a half for Vista to release then just buy Vista Professional.

Err if your buying a computer now you maytb should wait another month save your pennies and get Vista already installed then you don't waste $200 on an outdated OS. Also Direct X 10 comes out soon maybe wanna save some nickles for it/

Thanks for all the info, but my main concern is exactly which version of Vista will I get? Will it be sufficiant? I'm on a pretty tight budget, but if you think I REALLY need the $300 version I might consider it.
