Me and a friend were explaining halo2 to one of our less enlightened friends the other day, when one curious matter came up as we discussed our co-op games.

When playing Halo, in single player or co-op, im the sort of player who stays back, takes his time, and makes every round count. My friend on the other hand, goes in with guns blazing and leaves a path of mayhem in his wake. In co-op games, we compliment each others style, making things that much easier.

One thing that comes to light when we look back at our games is the weapons we use. I always carry an assault rifle with full ammo in reserve, and switch my primary weapon as necessary. I prefer to use the sniper rifle or pistol, but where these arent available I use whatever I find laying around. My friend on the other hand uses both weapons constantly, switching frequently and depleting his weapons extremley fast as he charges around the levels. In all the time I have owned halo, i have NEVER found myself with no ammo, but somehow he manages to empty both his guns several times in a level, despite the fact that he changes weapons more often.

So, I was wondering how other people prefer to play, finesse or fierceness? Also, I noticed that I use human weapons wherever they are available, but he seems to prefer plasma weapons. Does anyone else lean towards a particular gun type, or do most people just storm around using everything at their disposal?

I charge in with the AR. I use the pistol for the grunts. Sometimes I'll use the AR for taking down an Elite's shielding and then the pistol to finish him off. For some wierd reson I don't like reload in in the middle of a clip. It feels too unrealistic to reload in the middle of a clip.

More like your friend. Plasma weapons are better in campain espacially with the beam rifle that is in halo 2 if your a sniper. on Multiplayer i'm a pistol -blam!-. I always reaload for some reason.Even when I waste one bullet reload.

Don't shotguns shoot 14 bullets?

I definetly am like you're friend, ill shoot whatever i find with whatever i find, because the more bullets you use, the more dead the enemy is (hey, that'd make a good signature)
sometimes i switch guns to use them for fun, ie needler, RLauncher, because grunts act pretty funny with 15 needles in their back
same here too, my friend is the opposite, he's always tactical and conserves ammo

I use instead of an AR a plasma rifle or a plasma pistol. And I use the human pistol

me and the person i co-op with are exactly like you and you're friend, im the stealthy, take it slow, one shot one kill guy, but i also get my hands dirty if i feel like it or the situation requires it. My friend on the other hand will charge in with a battle cry (literally) right to the center of their ranks and take down as many of them as he can with the available weapons. That style also forces me to stay back to let him respawn

Mostly AR or PR, but with a pistol in reserve.

I tend to change my style based on the situation. There are some sitations where I find it really pays off to just charge in and start smacking things around. Especially later in the game after you have the shotgun.

A good example is the section in Two Betrayals when you open the door to the first outside area. There's a few elites and a mess of grunts and jackals. My roomate tends to hang back and try to wait on them, and they pretty much always corner and kill him. I tend to charge out and use cover as I can to take out the elites and then the jackals (though hopefully he's got the jackals or it's even odds if I survive the run).

Same deal with the room after the gravity lift in T&R... I try to stay in the main room and work with the marines for as long as possible... it tends to be *far* more effective than hiding in one of the corridors.

A few very notable spots that I will hang back though are before the ridge in T&Rw numerous choke points in AotCR and Two Betrayals, the brig in T&R, and the bit after the captain in Keyes... I find something a bit more conservative yields a better chance for survival there.

As a rule of thumb, if I'm at a choke point of if there's no good cover (generally, the best cover is a pillar or something like that, which blocks you, but you can get away from in more than one direction... nooks next to walls tend not to be so good), I'll hang back and try to lure the enemy into the chocke points where I have a better shot at taking on a couple at a time. If there's decent of open cover though and *especially* if the enemy is spread out (sitations where it's as easy for them to just stay back and hide as it is for me), I'll be aggresive and charge in shooting and whacking as much as possible.

Prefered combos:

Plasma Rifle/Needler with Pistol/Sniper Rifle (I don't care what anyone says, the needler is an incredible weapon on Legendary against elites until you get the shotgun).

Shotgun and Rocket Launcher: A staple for Two Betrayals. It's not all that hot at medium range, but if your teamate has a pistol or plasma rifle, you're golden. And if not, well, you just have to be aggresive and use grenades to smoke enemies out of medium range.

Sniper and Rocket Launcher: This is a terrible combination except for in AotCR when you have the tank. Once I have to dump the tank, I tend to empty the sniper rifle clearing stuff out on the ridge and trade it for a plasma rifle.

I pretty much never use the AR. In easy/normal it's good against grunts. In higher difficulties its only any good against jackals, and quite frankly, I'd rather have a plasma pistol paired with a human pistol or plasma rifle than an AR since a plasma pistol is at least a pretty good bet against elites (especially at close range, once their shields are down, they're easy prey for melee attacks)

In single player I do both-Stay back when i need to snipe but charge in when the time is right. Co-op though i mostly do the charging while the my friend would follow behind and finish them over. Example-I'll bull charge in wasting grunts but only able to take down elites shields before i run outta ammo, then melee as much as I can as my friend finishes off all the weak.
