I have been counting down the days until Vista would be released, and I thought to check out newegg to see if it was putting up pre-orders. Much to my surprise, they were already accepting orders and were delivering them!

Vista Basic

Vista Home Premium

Vista Ultimate

In all honesty I don't think the prices are that outrageous.

It's probably $199 and £199. ;)

I want the 64 bit one, but apparently it can't deal with 32 bit programs, so that rules that out.

Maybe I'll double check.

In most cases 64bit vista runs programs faster than 32bit vista. I don't know where you heard that rumour, but its completely false.

I just read a news article that says that newegg and other online retailers are selling OEM copies of Vista at almost 50% off the normal price.

What I meant by Vista not dealing with 32 bit programs, is that it 64 bit doesn't run any 32 bit apps (is what I heard), not that it runs slowly.

This is an OEM. You guys remember -blam!-ing about activation rules? You'll get to in real life if you buy this.

And what I meant about it running faster than 32bit windows was that it not only runs them, but runs them better.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, but I'm running XP Pro OEM and every single pc I've ever built/worked on uses an OEM version of windows, and the only difference in the OEM and the Retail version is that the Retail version gives you the big box, which apparently makes it cost twice as much. Don't be afraid to purchase the OEM version of Vista.

*EDIT*

Oh and also, you have to find the copies of Vista manually through the software --> operating systems --> microsoft --> ect. They do have one 64bit version available, although it is Vista Basic, and I've read about your distaste for this version so I decided not to link it.

It can deal with 32-bit programs. However it's a pain finding compatible drivers for a 64-bit Windows...

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Mine should be shipping from Micro Center for the same price tomorrow, and it might even arrive before my birthday.(the 30th) :D
