I have 2x256MB RAM on my computer, DDR PC3200, frequency 200MHz.

Now can I use any type of RAM that is the same as DDR PC3200, or do I need to match the frequency as well?

I ran CPU-Z to show extra help

if images are too small, just refresh.

I was looking at these RAM sticks here and here but I didn't know if they would work

It's generally a good idea to use the same RAM that your computer already has. Using RAM from another manufacturer or a different type can have unforeseen consequences.

Although people advise against mixing and matching, I've never had any problems with it and remember that it will only run as fast as the slowest stick. ;)

Sigh, upgrading RAMS are 5x more confusing than building a whole darn computer...IMO xP

I don't know, you should probably go with the same brand, frequency, type, etc., so you get minimal risks of technical errors. Also, how do you get CPU-Z? Looks useful.

Do not mix ram of different frequencies.

PC3200 = 400mhz. If you've already got 400mhz RAM and you said you're planning on getting more, then you're not mixing frequencies, just brands.

Chances are it'd perfectly fine.

ok so I got 200MHz RAM and DDR 400 is 400 MHz. however I looked up my D915GAG Model motherboard and it says I can support 400.

link

so why the hell was my computer supplied with 200MHz when it can support 400? Gah, stupid gateways. I tried telling my dad to build one.... but he saves like $200-300 on every gateway since we have like 7 of them in the house.

So now does the mobo say different than the CPU-Z?

It's because PC vendors tend to cheap out on what they put in a PC if you DID have lower quality RAM.

Anyway, the reason for it showing 200mhz is because it's DDR (double data rate). So, you take the 200 and double it to 400 and that's what it's running at.

Dude, pc3200 is the frequency, and it is another way of saying ddr400. To recap: ddr400=pc3200

ok thanks, so now it's good to get the DDR400 PC3200 RAM, correct?

Yeah, considering you're already using it.*
