To play or not to play....

I have been thinking about the Cortana letters lately and have had a few new ideas.

It is clear to me that Cortana did not write most of those Cortana letters. Although she appears to have sent them and written them she may not have composed them.

The style of writing is completely different. Cortana herself also reference to communications lines being corrupted and being hassled by a watchdog. Strange talk indeed but it is clear that Cortana knows something is messing with her.

At first I thought it was an enemy AI or virus that Cortana caught, or it latched on to her, during of her many adventures.

However much of the language and style of talk seems an aweful lot like the Gravemind may have been talking through Cortana.

I am not exactly sure if Halo was discovered before or after the Cortana letters were written but I am pretty sure the Cortana letters were written years before Halo 04 was encountered.

It is ok though as Cortana clearly had access to Forerunner technology and installations prior to the events of Halo CE.

This means that the Gravemind may be far more interesting than anyone even knows. It also implies that the Gravemind has infiltrated the Forerunner network beyond Delta Halo. Possibly the Gravemind has hacked into the network and can interact with other installtion but I doubt the Gravemind can transport between installation by anything other than conventional means. The Gravemind needed In Ember Clad to travel to High Charity.

or ...

Perhaps the Forerunner were in communication with the Gravemind allowing it access to much of there systems. The Gravemind is clearly intelligent and very smart. So the Forerunners may have been in communication with it. Possibly the Forerunners thought they could control the Gravemind but later learned the terrible truth and hence their own demise.

I admit this idea seems a bit far fetched at first. However the more I think about it the more it makes sense.

Another thought...

It is even possible the Gravemind even lured Cortana to Halo 04 for some reason. Though I doubt it but it would make sense. The gravemind may see Cortana as a smart AI and may have wanted her to deal with Guilty Spark. Guilty spark clearly wants to activate Halo something the Gravemind wants to avoid at all costs. Though this last idea is a bit far fetched it is an intriguing thought. It adds an interesting spin on why Cortana found Halo 04. Did she stumble on to it or was she lead to it?

I'm wondering if Gravemind, or any of Halo 2's or even all of Halo's storyline were even written at the time of the Cortana Letters being sent...?

Cortana is bad...

To clear something for you the Cortana letters were written before Halo was created, Many thought they had to do with Bungie's game, Marathon.

Yeah they were written a while ago.

Anyhow they don't really make much sense when you take into account all the Halo stuff we know now.

In relation to Durandal on the other hand they make much more sense.

So the letters need to be taken in context to the time they were written I guess.

Well, obviosuly, the basic story for Halo was created a long time before Halo was.

Not really. When Halo was an RTS, it was much different. For example, the Covenant were smugglers, I believe. I think that Bungie just feeds off their old games for their new ones, then watches us overanalyzing everything.
