Because you are what you eat, and you know what it is.

The Bungie.net Forums Wall of Shame

This would show up next to or around the right-hand side of the page, and would scroll the blacklisted members of that day that got banned that day (possibly have their offense as well), and this would give the other members an amount of information that may be important (how many mods are online, the activity of the forum, good and bad, etc.).

I also understand that some people would want to get blacklisted in order to see their name in view of everyone else, but the feature can be censored or blocked to the person that got the blacklisting.

Thank you for reading my idea.

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

What would it solve? It's not like you would know many people that were there. Plus it just takes up extra space on the side of the forum. And what if someone is a good little peon- err, member, and accidentily responded to spam on a morning that yoozel didn't get his morning liquor? He would get blacklisted for something he didn't mean to do (probably) and would be embarrased that everyone would see his name.

That's just the nature of the beast. Also, the mod could have the choice of it being posted or not.

Well still, it's not like it would prove anything. It wouldn't stop spam. If anything, it might encourage it because people might use alt. accounts to get blacklisted and see how many names they could get on it. I don't wanna know how they would get all those blacklistings.

Like I said, if it's alt. accounts, a mod can choose not to post it on the wall of shame.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

I don't think this would be any good.

Some people may find it funny to get a dozen accounts banned so they can have certain names appear on the list. Some people actually straighten out after being blacklisted, and they may not want their name appear.

Bungie should focus their effort somewhere else in my view.

I'm not sure what you even think it would accomplish.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Humiliation and shame, I would imagine.

I really see no point. Or, I see the point, and say it's a bad one. Publicly humiliating people for other's entertainment isn't exactly what this site is about.

I didn't say it would accomplish anything, did I?

I can explain. I have been taking too much dietary supplements.

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

I don't know, having anonymity through the internet takes away the effectiveness of being shamed in public. Besides, I groan at the thought of some little trouble makers taking pride in this display. (Plus, I'm a nice guy and wouldn't want to do that to people.)

Well, who would we put on the wall of shame. We can't put people who discuss modding, cheating, forbidden topics, etc because that brings attention to those topics when we really want them to die. We can't do alternate accounts because it gives them attention. We shouldn't do it to misguided, ignorant members because they might see that they've been given the dunce cap and try to get revenge, when they could have turned into a productive lab specimen. Member. Same thing.

I just can't think of anyone who we would want to put on the wall of shame.

There's a reason why I put a question mark in parentheses...

You think it got what it takes to be..?.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

News? Podcasts? Machinima? Active forums? Competitions? Jaffa Cakes!? OMG!
Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

If that happened I'd have the feeling of this forum being a prison; a claustrophobic tyranny of despair. It's bad enough not knowing who's been blacklisted, nevermind being constantly reminded.

  • 01.26.2007 3:50 PM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

I see no purpose for this suggestion.

I do see your side of it Reanimation. I also see everyone else's side. As most have already said, many would be proud to see their name on the "Wall of Shame". And as I said, I too see your side of this idea. More of a "Point and Laugh at the people that have been blacklisted", another punishment to maybe get someone to straighten up type of thing, like all "Wall of Shame's". Let us just put it this way, it is a good idea; but it's not. The bad overpowers the good, as in many cases. Personally, I like it how it is.

In 1998 the government here in England introduced a legal tool known as the Anti-Social Behaviour Order, or ASBO. As the name implies it was designed to be a solution to increasing occurrences of anti-social activity; "neighbours from hell", vandalism, illegal raves et cetera.

Quickly the media caught wind of some very bizarre ASBOs being issued. One prevented a seventeen year old from using his front door. Another prevented a teenager from being able to use the word "grass". Entirely hilarious I'm sure you agree.

Sadly the ASBO's validity as a deterrent has yet to be demonstrated. Indeed some claim that ASBOs have become a kind of badge of honour in some inner city areas. The targets don't see the publicity as a negative thing, instead they crave the public attention and "respect" garnered from being issued an ASBO.

My point should be obvious. The kind of people who are likely to find themselves on this wall of shame are those who either wouldn't care or else would appreciate the punishment. Spammers and other miscreants want publicity. They shouldn't get it.

I'm sure there would be "violation of privacy" accusations being thrown around if this were to happen. Why do you think the gamertags are hidden in the Whaaaambulance posts?

I can just imagine the newest craze for spammers will be to make the Wall of Shame™ as long as they can in one day.

It's like a contest! A bad one.

This suggestion assumes that the spammers in question actually care about their B.net image.

No.

Maybe a wall of fame for all the great active Bungie members, but a wall of shame can be embarrassing for the people that have been blacklisted, especially if it was for something stupid.
