Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Hah! Two of us!

Strength in numbers!

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Great idea!

It's true, a lot of members tend to forget about their groups and relatively don't stay in touch as often as a group founder would like.

Instead of wasting your time individually messaging each member about an important issue or even concerning with the group, you could easily save time by using the, "message all group members." feature.

This would greatly help Group Admins who had pages of members, and want to get in touch with them all via a message.

I hope Achronos strongly looks into this issue.

I've seen it said before, and I'm going to reiterate it.

There needs to be a "Message all Members" function for administrators. I find that it would be much more economic (and efficient) than just creating a thread in the chapters' forums.

How would this benefit, you ask? Quicker and much more reliable communication! Many members of chapters, especially new ones, forget to check in to their groups. A "Message all Members" utility would fix this mess...

Additional details are listed farther below

Achronos! I'm counting on you!!

I know. I'm in a relatively inactive group, because it's a subset of a larger group for ladder matches. (There's 4 teams, each one is its own group). Sometimes there's important stuff posted in the team forum, but more often than not everybody misses this stuff and says "wtf? When was this happening?". For team announcements, it would be infinitely more useful to PM all members instead of hoping they randomly read the forums.

Hopefully this would extend to anyone with full control permissions, not just admins.

(10:19:49 PM) Scruss: oh and pezza, i saw what you did to that cat
(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

That would leave everyone open to spamming, but it makes sense. I wouldn't be against it becoming a function in Chapters.

I think the temptation to spam would be too great.

That's where my idea (Or someone elses, I'm not too sure) comes in. People can check off what groups they do or do not want te recieve group mail from, like the current blocking list, but just for certain groups whose admins you do not want mail from.

I actually kind of like it.

Yeah, not sure what the impact would be on the server load, but if it's viable with present resources I'd definitely appreciate it. A further option to discriminate according to designated security policies would be ideal.

Yeah, kinda like article visibility.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I do actually think this would be quite useful. Obviously there is the issue of spam/similar things but if it was limited to say once a day or something, the possibility of abuse should drop. Additionally, users could be given a toggle option to receive/not-receive these chapter PMs.

  • 01.26.2007 4:54 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

I don't think there should be a limit. If someone is abusing it, there's always the "receive/not receive" option GP mentioned.

For example, if there's a tourney going on, and that one mass message is used, what happens if there's a sudden change in plans? That limit will restrict the admin's ability to let everyone know what's going on.

It sounds like a good idea especially if you could designate the message to members of specific security roles.

  • 01.26.2007 5:02 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

I think it would be only for LOLADMINZ, not L0LADMINZ.

Fight hard, break bones >{o

if you dont like being messaged you could always click "leave group"

no extra options are needed if we could simply get the message button (rather see it happen with few options then not happen becuase of too many options). but yeah, a censor could work, like only being able to use it once an hour, day, month (please no, lol), like how you cant post 6 times in a row too quickly.

Alright, as I'm actually gaining support on said topic...

* Both ends could have restrictions. Members could chose not to receive group PM's via their blacklisting settings, and a group admin could choose not to send PM's to members, via checkboxes next to each name on the members category or to entire security positions.

* To prevent excessive spam attacks, limit mass PM's to maybe 3-4 a day per group.

* An additional security setting could be made, so other members other than the administrator could be allowed to send mass PM's to the chapter's members.

Additional Features:
* all mass PM's would have a default "disclaimer", telling the receiver how to disable the PM's for those who are new or unfamiliar with the system.

* A link to the group could be included by default or choice in the PM

* Group stats, such as founder name, number of members, or creation date could also be placed on each PM.

Good idea, I like...one more great Idea from you.

and one less Great idea i didn't think of :\

  • 01.26.2007 8:12 PM PDT

If it was a security role then spam wouldn't really be a problem would it? I mean, what kind of group leader would spam their own members?

  • 01.26.2007 8:42 PM PDT

This idea has been said more times than I can count in the past and I still think its a good idea. Additionally the blocking chapters you don't want to recieve PM's from is a good idea. Of course I think less administrators would abuse this feature than you expect because if it is abused they'd find a sudden drastic drop in there memberships. I for one would quite a group that spams my inbox.

Then of course there is the alternate solution of just allowing one mass group PM per 24 hour period which would solve the problem in a simplier solution.

I'm not expecting administrators to abuse a group PM function, I'm just being assertive that it doesn't happen.

  • 01.27.2007 4:30 AM PDT

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I know that when most people start a group they want it to grow rapidly to vast amounts of members. When they get alot of members a great percent of them aren't very active. Thsi would be a great idea instead of having to PM each individual member.

Here here #2!

Yes. It would not only be important for the receiving parties to have some say over what they receive but the sender should also have some control.

As a group leader I may only want to send said message to half of my group. Or just to the Mods. This would be useful...rather than having to either send a message to one member...or to all.

Though I would take an all function over none.
