Compared to any other weapon, the heavies take much less skill. I didn't say no skill, just way less. All you really need is basic reflexes, because you only have to hit the general area of your enemy and they're instantly gone. A decent computer with a high frame rate helps because of the graphical power needed for explosions. Low ping also plays a big part, more than in other gametypes because one lucky shot kills.

Heavies is about having the host advantage and all that garbage. Rockets take nearly no precision; nearly no skill. Unskilled players enjoy this because everyone's (nearly) equally skilled in a rockets game.

Lets do a 1 vs 1 rocket game. Lets put your theory to the test. Everyone nearly equally skilled? We shall see..... I'll even play you on my old PC with a 56k connection if you like lol.

Host advantage? Are you serious?

What about snipers then? having no ping is an advantage, just click on their head and they are dead. Doesn't matter how far away they are. You don't have to lead and can even hit people in mid air. No skill at all...
I just want to say that it seems as if you are implying that it is harder to hit people in mid-air, when they jump, which isn't true. It's the exact opposite, because then they can't change direction once they jump or are propelled. Oh, and I think it takes skill, just much less without having to lead.

Kim-
On a non-dedicated server the host does have an advantage, and with one-shot-kills, (rocket or sniper), it's an advantage.

You're right about jumpers– once they jump, you know where they'll land. Shoot where you know they'll land. I always laugh at jumpers in a sniper game.

I COMPLETELY AGREE <<<<caps is equals force

I'm looking for a good FFA slayer, go into beaver creek and someone's chasing me with an FRG or rocket. It isn't fun, at all.

No, I know the advantage is considerably large, I just meant to say that being the host is irrelevant. You don't need to have zero ping to absolutely destroy people with the rocket launcher.

Yup. That might work in Counter-Strike, or Quake, but not here.

Maybe everybody prefers rocket gametype because it's one of the few gametypes where people can't aimbot......

In fact, I actually tried aimbotting on a rocket server once, back when I was immature, noobish, and banned from the Maw server. More often that not, I ended up blowing myself up.

Well I haven't read this thread in a while, but my last post was simply saying that just because rockets are "one hit kills" doesn't mean they take no skill. I was simply comparing them to the sniper. Having power does not mean not needing skill to use. Even the shotgun requires skill to use.

Rockets, fun every once in a while. Takes skill to use only in long ranges with moving targets or when it's a rockets-only match.

Other than that, I only pick them up to waste the ammo or when people are going warthog-happy too many times.

MasterKim I would love to if he/she wishes so, but then again I'm not the one criticizing Heavy Weapons or their players.

Agreed. The shotgun takes plenty of skill. I can use it pretty well. :)

Uh... I think it's perfectly possible to be VERY good at rocketing and still say it takes no skill.

Now I like a long distance rocket duel now and again since that takes skill (taking potshots at the enemy, conserving ammo until you get close enough that the enemy can't dodge in time, waiting for the other person to jump first) and also like taking down stupid banshees with mah rocket, but when you spawn and some -blam!- just shoots you in the back from 3m away immediately, it's no fun at all.

Occasional CTF rocket is fun, but I dislike Rocket Slayer simply because there's a lot of luck involving where you spawn which certainly affects your gameplay.

Anyone who says "Rocket don't take skill" put your money where your mouth is and step to the plate. 1vs1 and even I will sit you down.

Any takers? Probably not.

Yes, they are boring. But I'll enjoy them every once and a while. I think we're being just a bit too hard on rockets, not that i'm saying that they're great. I don't hate them, but I don't like them.
