I've disagreed with Recon on a couple occasions, and I'm still here. I think it was because I handled the disagreement with intelligence and diplomacy, rather than stupidity and spite. I think it all boils down to how much you really want to piss people off. If your thread gets locked, it's not the end of the world. If you get banned, it's not the end of the world.

The mods made the rules, in most cases, for the good of the mass Bungie populace. They wouldn't break their own rules, would they?

And for the locked threads that do seem a little harsh, compare your thread and its contents to the rules of the forum you posted in. You might surprise yourself.

Overall, I don't think the mods have a personal vendetta against the members of Bungie.net. They might seem strict at times, but it is for the greater good. If you can't handle that, well, then I guess you should leave.

Shishka was a very stern Moderator and if that's the ideal candidate for a Moderator it's time we go back to boot camp.

Agreed. I found Shishka to be very egotistical myself, probably the harshest mod we have had.

And I agree that threads that mock emos need to be rid of, it's just like making fun of another group of people, it's plain ignorant and the insults can get pretty harsh.

I havent seen Yoozel be unfair, well, besides handing me a 5 month bant....

  • 01.27.2007 11:31 AM PDT

I dunno, I can see where you guys are coming from, i see more and more locked threads (Some not needing to be), and mods cracking down, but you also gotta face the fact that the forums have changed in the last while. We have a abundance of idiots and newbies now, and a lot more mods. there is at least one mod online now all the time. So my opinion is yes, mods are cracking down, and im sure some legitimate threads get locked down to, but your takin the forums a little to seriously as well.

P.S. I was made a Moderator like a month after Stosh and Shishka were the first two mods. I'm old, I remember when we had no blacklist feature.

You could just lock and pin/unpin?
That's rough.

tbh, i see where you're coming from [wow nearly typo'd and you'd be voming! err anyway] but its a couple of the members who like to use this place as a chatroom - [im looking at you, members of New Mombasa] or just another crowd to boast their rank to.

Threads need to be locked. Forums need to be moderated. But really, if the ninja's were actually that; ninja's, there wouldnt be a problem. If they had the same exact profiles as a member, same avatars, same text then they'd be invisible. Threads would disappear that weren't worth keeping, pointless users would be warned anonymously that they were about to be banned.

But that's my opinion. Thing is MAC, Turkies don't vote for Christmas, you have to understand that.

I completely agree with you Necare. That was about as well a response to this thread as I could have hoped to see.

I got nothing more to say other than things are fine the way it is. I mean, it's just a forum, lighten up.

Yeah, i've disagreed with moderators before, all it earned me was a blacklisting!

Although, that was with Ghandi 2 on the first day of his modship and it was accidental, he was kind enough to apologise to me and have it removed :). (although, he then went and permalawled shishka, so "accident"... i dunno? :D)

Just learn who's who and what their limits are and you'll be fine. Unless its Toast, then, the only appropriate thing is to rile him up until he edits every post in the topic to say LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Otherwise, just PM the mod and ask them why they took whatever action they did, they're all nice enough to tell you why they did it. Most often its just because its an absolutely moronic topic, or a repeat topic thats been done to death. Again, this doesn't apply to toast, the reply you'll get from him is, again "LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL".
And on Shishka... I liked him. Sure, he may have been annoying as hell with his head-inflating sayings and overuse of the intentionally-misspelled word "fanboi", but he was fair, to the letter, usually.

And Bob, you know exactly the point he was making. So don't edit out an entire post in a thread about mods taking unecessary action.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

I don't thing the moderators are getting any stricter. They are doing a fine job, especially the new ones.

Last night there was a problem with a Halo 2 video in New Mombasa and I think the Moderator handled the situation fairly and wasn't too mean. When there's an increase of "munchkins" on the forums, more threads will get locked because they are breaking the rules. This may look like they are being tougher, but reality, they are just doing the same thing they did before.

Saying something as illogical as this thread, without backing your claim up with any hard evidence will get you no where.

It might just be me, but since the time I lurked here, joined, and up until today, I never have really seen a huge change in anything on Bungie.net. To me, everything seems to be on about the same level as it was with only more members, which when you have an influx of members, you should expect there to be more topics getting locked and whatnot.

The point he was making? He was trying to say that anyone who agrees with us is automatically a suckup. That starts flamewars. Flamewars kill topics regardless of how useful they may be otherwise.

The point he was making was that whenever anyone makes a point, whatever the topic, they're immediately jumped on and instantly derided by people who think the light shines out of yours and Pezza's arse. Which, strangely enough, never happens when someone with another colour text posts.

How about you go to New Mombasa regularly? Not too many people boast ranks in NM as they usually get flamed and/or it's a fun one where people find their own thing that they did. Usually it's a "What was your best game in the last two weeks?'. And that leads to conversation.

Being invisible isn't always a good thing. If a mod posts in a thread, and someone sees it, they're gonna think twice before posting. However, I do agree that the forums should be moderated more. Even if 10 minutes a day a mod(who wouldn't have gotten on that day) could come in and run a quick sweep, some people could be banned/threads deleted. And it could save hours of crap.

In the past few months, there has been a rising tide of both idiocy and hooliganism. I shouldn't have to remind you of Pillage, nor of those promoting the Flood vs. New Mombasa forum wars.

*Sigh*

And that's only to get worse.

And OP, it doesn't seem that way to me. I've seen people disagree with mods. Achronos, ghandi TGP.

I myself, disagreed with shishka and did flame him a little. What did he do? Flame me back and moved on. The only time I ever see a mod ban or do something for disagreeing was either:1- when it was toast. 2- When you don't put up a good point or argument and you just relentlessly spam with same old crap and/or the whole thread is just spam.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I disagree with moderators all the time, I don't know what you're talking about...

Sounds like a case of the "Poor Me's"....

I just think moderators have to much of a personality on the forums, acting like celebs or some thing. Not all of them are like this though, I will always have the upmost respect for stosh, Yoozel, GJJ, and a few others, but a bunch of the mods I just read their posts and shake my head.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Oh jeeze, this topic again.
Posted by: MAC 13720
I remeber the days when I could say in the forums what was on my mind. No flaming, and no trolling. I would have people who agreed with me, and people who would disagreed with me. Thats what forums are all about.

Those days still exist if you aren't flaming. The good old days are an illusion caused by selective memory. Unfortunately, many people seem incapable of not flaming, so I have to hand out blacklists to keep the peace.
1. You will never under any circumstances disagree with Bungie.
Have you seen the Halo forums? Half of the entire forum freaking hates Bungie, and Optimatch is nothing but complaining. And yet the entire forum is not locked...I wonder why?
2. You will never under any circumstance be anything but a total pawn of Achronos.
Which is, of course, why I and many other members have disagreed with him. Some people are tools, but considering his position, Achronos is almost obscenely nice. Try looking at some of his posts in the Halo forums. Hey look! Disagreement!
3. You will never under any circumstance challenge a moderator or disagree with one, because they are always right and you pathetic members are inferior
Do have anything at all to back this up in any way? People disagree with me all the time. They are not blacklisted. I have never seen another moderator say anything like that.
Things really hit rock bottom when Shishka left. He understood the balance between strictness and "live and let live".
That's funny, because while he was still a moderator people disliked him because they thought he was too much of a hardass.
Now, many, NOT ALL, but many of the moderators will now just see a thread that has even the slightest problem with it, and they'll lock it; because they can.
Or because they think it violates the rules? Please provide some evidence, or stop insulting us with forum-drama conjecture.
So when I say that im leaving the Bungie.net forums Im not going to get alot of "Oh, well miss you," like he did. But he was right. The moderators have become to strict. Achronos and the rest of the on-line team has forgotten that this once wonderful Community is about the members, not about the people in charge.
As has been mentioned earlier, there have been a lot of idiots around, so keeping order is more difficult. Wouldn't it benefit me more if I just stopped caring about the rules and let everything be? Then I wouldn't have to bother clicking the Lock button or anything. And please, show me a thread that you think shouldn't have been locked and/or was only locked because of some sort of stupid powertrip. In fact, any time you think I made a mistake, please PM me.

So we're in trouble if we only lurk, and we're also in trouble if we post and show a personality? Sounds like we're in a tight spot.
That being said, egotistical behavior is not good.
