Sometimes when I go into multiplayer I can get into the middle of a game, and at any random time, the screen darkens, and the program minimizes.

Next, a dialog box that says "Gathering Exception Data", titled, "Exception!" comes up. It stays up for about five minutes, and goes away, and then comes up with the error box and asks if you would like to send an error report, and when I tried, it doesn't even send it, it just hangs at the first step, responsive, but hangs. So I skip the error report. After about 2 minutes of leaving the system alone (after closing Halo) the system re-stabilizes and is good to go again.

Here's the error.

Maw

That happens usually when theres a critical error in a map. Did you mod any of the maps? All I know to do is reinstall.

That used to happen to me, found out a file was corrupted due to an internet attack, after re-installing i have been fine, and that was about 2 months ago.

It's an error in one of your map files. My suggestion (and this worked for me):

- First off, wait it off. Continue to play if you like. It should go away soon, it did for me.

- If it still doesn't, try NOT playing for a few days. Play again, to see your results.

-If that STILL doesn't work...well, reinstalling is your best option.

Good luck dude.

First guy...
No, I have no mods, haven't gotten that far into screwing withit yet.

Second Guy...
I'll try a reinstall. Should I move my save files so they don't get deleted?

I haven't had an infection my system since the first day it was on the net (actually, about 3 weeks ago.) I had gotten a trojan that infected all of my.exe files and totally f'ed up the system, and made it totally unusable. I did a clean install of Windows XP, then I installed Halo when I got it from FedEx the next day. The irony of the situation is that I was using Norton AV, and McAfee AV, which could block spyware and adware, too. NOw I've got AVG and Spyware Terminator and nothing gets through my wall. LOL!!

Yeah, back them up, so you don't have to start all over again. Especially if you beat legendary.

Only got it three weeks ago, plus I was more focused on multiplayer.

You don't need to uninstall and reinstall the game. In the game menu just click "repair". It will only copy the main game files and won't delete your save games.

Specs?

Maybe your computer can't handle a couple of grenades going off at once? Sort of like in CE, if you pause and fire 20 nukes...
