Human history is (correct me if I’m wrong) around 4500 years long and we have only evolved better minds.

Look at the name forerunner look it up

Forerunner
One that precedes, as in time; a predecessor.
An ancestor; a forebear.

One that comes before and indicates the approach of another; a harbinger.

Both are true the forerunner came before humans maybe they built halo for humans to save them from the flood they also had GS built to warn the Humans about the flood.

How could the forerunners know that the humans would find the flood?

If it was to save humans, why where there flood on the ring in the first place?

GS didn't warn them. He came after keys (or the covies) freed the flood

There are other possibilities. If the Flood were being researched for whatever reason then they might have been researching other species.

Personally, the theory I'm following at the moment is that long ago the humans were the only true civilization in the galaxy. They were the forerunner, a proud and decadent race that never once thought they could ever do wrong.

Having mastered the machine, strange energies they expanded their experiments, working with the very foundation of life itself. They began creating servitor species, bred to survive in harshest environments, to protect them and perform hard labor where machines would be less efficient.

It would be a new era for the Forerunner topped by their one new experiment. They were to be immortal, the discovered a lifeform with vast regenerative properties and were attempting to extract the genes that made it so resilient. They did not foresee the danger. How could they? They were gods. One day that particular experiment escaped and brought the forrunner to it's knees.

The triggering of the Halos was their only option to save what was left of the universe. A last lone human aboard the Halo Installation 04 stopped and hesitated, realizing by activating the Halos he would destroy what little human life remained. He has an idea, there is a slim chance for survival however, Guilty Spark, the AI guardian of Halo 04 annihilates the human when he begs for time, taking the index for himself and activates the ring. Years later, confronted by the Master Chief the AI becomes confused between the two events and begins talking to the Chief as if he were his ancient master.

The Halos go off and humankind is nearly eradicated, all except for those huddled away in a special chamber in a forerunner facility on a small world called "Earth". Meanwhile, lightyears away the races of the covenant prosper and begin to gain sentience, exploring the laboratories they were created with or escaping out into the wild. Milennia later the Prophets begin to gather together the races and takes the role the Forrunners were meant to be... the God Kings of the servitor races.

Then... the Covenant encountered Earth and the Prophets, for the first time, knew fear. Their masters had returned.

Awesome! A little dramatic, but that's not a bad thing. Your theory is along the line of what I was thinking. I think that it is plausible.

....the flood were created to reproduce all life because the flood structure is all either human dna or covanent dna combined with very little flood dna.... the flood were created to recreate life [when they would reproduce instead of a flood baby a human or covenant baby would be created....that is the reason why the flood were created...

I can never resist a good discussion about the Halo story.

There's no telling what the Forerunner were, but they
were most likely the shape of humans. (The Covenant
have a humanoid shape as well) Whatever they were, I
think the Forerunner were cyborgs. A race as smart as
the Forerunner would probably begin to believe that their
mechanical creations were superior to their own flesh,
and their next course of evolution may have been to assi
milate themselves into mostly mechanical beings, maybe
even as far as technological "spirits." I don't know if
anyone here has read 2001: A Space Oddyssey, but
there is a similar concept as well as a Mk V suit in there
somewhere...
Continuing the idea of the Forerunner becoming entirely
machine, Cortana seems to fit that description very well,
and may be a casue of Covenant hate. They realize that
we easily achieve the Forerunner's godlike status with
A.I. and want to destroy us and take our technology with
them.

P.S. 343 GS recognizes Cortana as a "Construct", not
A.I. Maybe a construct is different than an A.I. Also,
Cortana was quite a bit more powerful than 343, and
easily overtook 343's commands. Why would the all
powerful Forerunner leave something as weak as 343?
Anyone else find it strange how easily Cortana was
plugged into an ancient computer?
The more answers you seek, the more questions seek
you.

I don't think Cortana was necessarily more powerful then 343. She certainly had the upperhand being inside the core and with access to all of Halo's systems. Poor 343 was never allowed into the core.

Good thinking. I thought of that while writing, but ignored it
for the most part. I did however write a question in my post
script asking why Cortana gets in the core so easily. You
would think the Forerunner would put in a security measure
to prevent that sort of thing, b/c 343 obviously recognizes
what Cortana is, and may have recognized she is no
ordinary A.I. as well. Ordinary tech in Forerunner terms is
most likely beyond our technology however.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, I looked up "construct" on
dictionary.com, and as a noun, it its pronounced
they way 343 says it, and it means something
that is constructed from parts. 343 GS definitely
knows exactly what Cortana is.

Or most likely, 343 likes using the term "construct" for himself and others of his kind because he doesn't like being called "artificial" anything. He's a prideful little sucker.

Come on people, they made 343GS speak English cuz he's too valueable of a character to go through the game silent!

In other words, we would have no idea whats was going on in Halo 1, when 343 spoke....alien for the whole game. We would be left out of so much info, why not have a AI speak English.
