Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Wait a month or so and you can get a GeForce 8600 for about $179.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

DO NOT BUY AT BEST BUY!!!

They have ripped off(or tried to) my Uncle and my mom's cousin.

Buy at Circuit City or Micro Center or anywhere but best buy!

He tells the truth.

Best Buy should rather be called Worst Buy. They sell mid ranged cards there for 100+ dollars. WTF?

I suggest Newegg, Circuit City, or CompUSA. They have the best deals on computer parts, since their business is dedicated to computer parts. Best Buy on the other hand is pretty much ALL electronics, so they wouldn't care less about the prices. I only go to Best Buy to buy DVD's and games. I also bought my headset there.

NO! Tiger direct is one of the best places to buy computer parts. Its really cheap most of the time. Just check around everywhere to see who has the best prices.

Alright, I can tell you what to get if you want a cheap, decent, rig.

Video Card-Radeon 9700 Pro

Hard Drive-Get at least 80 gigs, it shouldn't be too expensive (I would suggest 2 60 gigs, keeping your games on the slave)

Motherboard-Try and find a duel core that will support PCI-E and PCI. This lets you use the stuff I list, but will let you upgrade later. If you clockspeed seems low, overclock it. Intel processors are awesome for overclocking.

RAM-Depending on what your motherboard supports, try and get DDR2. You will want at least 512, but I suggest getting 1 gig.

Other-Get an external sound card (such as the Mad Dog). They aren't that expensive, and can work wonders for games.

That rig will let you upgrade to Vista, and you can play most games on medium quality.

That computer is not going to be much better than the one he has now.

Here is a pretty decent, but cheap video card.

I'm not an expert on Core 2 Duos, but this one looks good for the price, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is a decent, and very affordable hard drive.

I don't know what type of RAM you need, so I can't help you there.

seriously, stop recommending parts. No to the 9700 pro since there are better deals to be had. Not to mention there is no way to hook up an agp 9700 pro to a PcI-e mobo like you recommended, or how you said to find a mobo that supports PCI and PCI-e, like those are hard to find.

Getting less than one gig now a days is pointless if you want to game.

finally you would be fine with onboard sound for a budget rig, the money could be put towards something more important like ram or a graphics card.

damn how did you do that like here and it under lined so you can click on it. but you sure know your stuff. When i got that nvidia it was the same price but probably goes for like 30$ now a days. but looks good but i guess i can go a little higher than that for something like 266$ or under. the core duo kinda confuses me to. lol
