I remembered an incident a little while back, wherein two disgruntled users--one of which is now rightfully permabanned--got into my groups, and spammed the living hell out of them. Making about two pages of thread after thread with profanity and insults pointed towards me.

I'm not here to piss and moan about that, because it doesn't bug me when people say crap like that about me. I really couldn't care any less. But, there should be a way to prevent it from happening. Because guess what? Afterwards, I had to root out and delete two pages of spam in about four of my groups! Yippee!

So, in order to prevent such an incident happening to anyone else, I propose that there be a daily thread limit in groups, like we have in the public forums. Discuss.

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Locking threads and deleting posts isn't that hard.

When there's two pages of total spam in four groups, with a jumpy server, it takes about half an hour.

Maybe you should refrain from frustrating people and simply ignore them.

And you shouldn't leave your groups open to the public. Learn from your mistakes.

You shouldn't assume I haven't. Right after that happened, the security in my group jumped up higher than a kangaroo on steroids (okay, really bad metaphor).

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

I think it should be a choice of the overlord in the groups. If the overlord wants a limit, (s)he should be allowed to make a limit.

What Sketto said. I don't think this is a needed feature. Bungie.net has more priorities than this. You should either get more active moderators or make sure you don't let in the wrong people

Hmm. There really should be. I always assumed there was. Makes sense to me.

One day, not too long ago, some dude spammed my group (Co-Admin. = me) because he had a grudge against one of our members.

There were twenty threads to delete. Fortunately, I pretended to be offline and had a Moderator do it. :D That'd be funny if someone in that group saw this.

Anyway, I'm indifferent. Things like that hadly ever happen in groups....I don't care.

Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

If this proposal were a kitten, I would kick it. Basically, no thanks. I'll suffer the threat of spam in order to keep my ability to post whatever I want or need to post in my groups.

Controlling fission events without incident since May, 2012.

Reasonable limit, say, 30 posts a day with occasional exceptions.

I've challenged my beliefs. What is the book about?

I find that this is usually untrue. If religious people honestly, diligently and intelligently challenged their beliefs, there would be no religious people.

I think there should be a delete checklist (kinda like email) so it's easier to get rid of :P

A high limit would be good as an ant-spam measure.

Well the purpose of groups are rather open. They can be used for alot of things. However, in the case of using a group to discuss certain topics, a topic limit could be troublesome.

Say if there's a group about moderator discussion and the admin hasn't really finished the group. A member couldn't make the individual threads for each moderator if the topic limit in place.

Granted that's only one example, but I'm sure there's more. I don't think having a topic limit would be that beneficial. However if it takes a relatively short time to implement , and doesn't take work away from more beneficial group upgrades then I don't see it being a problem to have as an option.

Been there. But once such nonsense gets moved down onto page two, is it really that much of a problem, especially once it's been locked?

It is if all the threads are titled "MATTBLUHALOFAN IS -blam!-", and "MATTBLUHALOFAN SUCKS..." fill in the blanks.

Maybe a power for group admins and such to change offensive thread names would be better than a group post limit for each member.

Keeping your groups closed is the best idea.

The limit really isnt fair to active groups w/o spam.

How many people make 5 threads per day in any one group?

Honestly?

Put it at 10, if that's not enough, the person needs to get a life because they can always finish tomorrow.

With all do respect, Mattbluhalofan, it sounds to me that the problem was your own doing. I'm not saying it's your fault, but you should be very[ careful when chosing who should be allowed into your group. Take this into consideration next time.

I apologize for giving you people the benefit of the doubt, happy? God forbid. I felt I didn't need to set up huge security measures because I trusted this community. I didn't think I would need to. I figured you people were mature enough that it wasn't necessary. Hell, that's a compliment to you. You may as well spit in my face whenever I say you did something well.

A lot of us are mature, but some people are stupid enough to come here just to make people mad. Not just spammers are here, but some people live to make group admin's days bad. Like I said, I'm not flaming you, just trying to help. I wish you the best of luck in finding good future members to contribute to your group.

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't trust the community to guard a bale of hay.
