Ok, first off, I want to set things loud and clear. I have Halo_DS v1.07, HaloPC is up to date with patch v1.07, and my init is flawlessly simple. I also let my firewall allow ports: 2302, 2303, and 80. So it's NOT any of these problems.

Ok, I set up my dedicated server, and log on HaloPC. It's on my LAN lobby list, just as I expected. I double click it, and it says "retrying server (1...2...3...etc.)" instead of letting me join. I don't get it wth is going on??? This happened a long time ago as well, but now I HAVE to get it fixed, because some of my clan members want to have a clan gathering tonight, and I don't want to create a hassle using my own custom server.

P.S. For people who is about to tell me "you can't join your own DS if it's installed in the same computer", think again. You CAN join your own servers, even with one computer. I joined it once when I used to use 1.06, but the problems arised after I've logged out (this was a LONG time ago). Now I NEED to get this problem fixed by 5 hours.

Thanks for any help. A working answer from the experts, such as Iggwilv and UXB is requested. I'll PM ya guys right now.

Ok just because you opened up ports 2302 and 2303 doesn't mean your router know where to send them. You have to setup port forwarding on your router in order to tell it to send the packets to your DS and not any other computers. Get your router manual and lookup port forwarding or Application forwarding and follow those directions.

Exactly, this is just basic port forwarding and it is entirely dependant on your router model as the interfaces are different. Look up in your manual how to foward ports 2300-2310(these are the most common although 2302 is the defualt) to the IP address of your computer that has the DS on it. It also helps to set a static IP on the computer that runs the DS so you wont have to log back into your router if the IP of the computer changes. You can do this in XP in the control panel>network conenctions>the conenction adapter>right click properties> internet protocol TCP/IP>advanced

http://www.portforward.com/ Is also a very helpful site.

According to portforward's forum, I have no router.

But you have a hardware firewall? I don't understand how you can forward ports to a location if there is only one location anyway.

I didn't forward them Pet0sh. Like I said, I don't have a "router", so all I did was allow the firewall to accept ports 2302, 2303, and 80.

It is giving you a problem because you are using the same port for the server that you are trying to play on. Go to your setting and change your network ports, then go back to internet play and type in the web address. It wont show up anymore on your lan list since it is a different port

Ah, so THAT's what's going on...but is it all right if you can give me step by step, or visual instructions on how to change my network ports for my DS? Thanks.

.

If you run the DS and client on the same machine both using the default settings then you have a port conflict. Either change the DS ports or change the Client ports. The articles below should help you out.

I started a dedicated server and can't connect to it

Hey, thanks UXB, your hce post really helped. =D Now I can join my own dedicated server.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

EDIT: Btw, how do I make my dedicated server run without the underscores ( _ ) in my server title? In the init, it won't let me put LP server, I have to put LP_server...

Same goes for custom map names with spaces, you need to put them in quotes.
