Does waiting in matchmaking count towards the three hours, or does it have to be solid playtime?

When the Halo 3 multiplayer beta surfaces in spring 2007, those owners of Crackdown that have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive and a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription simply need to load their copy of Crackdown into Xbox 360 and use the disc as a key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace and join the battle in Halo 3 multiplayer.

Does this mean that the game itself is the code and will bring up the menu to the download or will the game be carrying a reedeemable code to enter into the marketplace to bring the menu up?

Dont get too wrapped up in the Internet. It's already forgotten about you.

This still leaves many questions unanswered but does clear up some mystery.

However, making a 360 a requirement further supports the conspiracy theory about that many people who don't have a 360 were picked for the first round.
This is proof that the servers can detect if you have a 360 or not.
Would that be correct?

Either way, I personally don't care.
I've got Crackdown on reserve and I'll attempt the rule of 3 as well.

I must say that it is nice that you don't have to play till 3am and then rush to your computer.
It's nice that the rule of 3 lasts 3 days.

Not to speak for Bungie, but,

with the Crackdown disk in your 360, you would go to the Market place and select H3 Beta to download and the Crackdown disk would then validate your selection and start the download. You probably would need to have this Crackdown disk in the 360 whenever you wanted to play H3.

but I also could imagine another way it will work and that is that you will go to the market place and select the H3 Beta to download and it will then prompt you to enter the key printed on Crackdown disk. I doubt this method would be used though.

Has anyone noyiced NOT ONE OF ANY OF OUR QUESTIONS HAS BEEN SNSWERED??
Everyone wants to know what counts as 3 hours of H2 XBL. I do to. I also want to know if I should skip school tomarro to be play the three hours ASAP. But if registering is the only thing that counts when you do it, then I could easely play three hours between feb 1st and 3rd. But then do I register at 1:00 AM exactly on feb 5th or some other time? Is it even best to register as soon as posible or will Halo 3.com be to bogged down? How do I seing in with my windows live ID? Is the sight going to have the "register your 3 hours here for Halo 3 beta perticipation" link suddenly appear at exactly 1:00 on the 5th? What counts as "being an active member of the comunity"? 3 or more hours H2 XNL every day + at least 6 posts a day? More of those? Less? Because I have been consistently doing that and more since I 1st got XBL!
WOULD SOMEONE PLEAS ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AND THOSE BEFORE ME!! we need YOU to tell us EXACTLY what do do and WHEN!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I am no expert on the matter, but if you are a halo freak like me you will take the guessing out of the 3 hour timing thing and start playing at midnight tonight and at 3:01am register on the halo3.com website. Come to think of it you might as well register there right now as a practice run. Then keep playing until you have 3 hours of in game time - maybe another 1.5 or 2 more hours and then register again (halo3.com again). And also I wouldn't play custom or unranked. I would go straight with the ranked games ( seems that msoft likes them better). and then I am not sure what this 2/5 date is all about, but it couldn't hurt to register again on the site at that deadline. If you want to be proactive you should clear your schedule tomorrow, get your mom to write that note now or pack a pillow in your backpack cause you are going to be dragging tomorrow and probably twitching in your sleep.

So I guess you should try to stop figuring out which way is the correct way and do ALL OF THEM!. Of course I aint sweatin cause I made it in already... which is a little confusing by itself. When I heard about halo3.com (albeit it was a while ago) I signed up on it. Then I kept signing up on it every week or so. I am not sure if there was anything else I was supposed to do. I already had my gamertag attached to my msoft id. I have been a bnet junky and an sbox.com junky for a while and that might of had somethin to do with it. but alas i'd be only speculating at this point.

So here is another rule of 3 for getting into halo 3 beta.

1) start playing tonight at midnight and dont stop until 5am (for you left coasters that is start at 9pm and don't stop till 2am).

2) register at halo3.com 3 hours after you start playing and again 5 hours after you started playing- also register again on the 2/5 deadline.

3) Play the run of the mill RANKED matchmade games.

and you know since all you out there are going to be online tonight I might as well get out there too and juggle some grenades. More the merrier I always say.

"Frag me now, cause I'm gonna frag you later"

i don't think its fair that just because the halo series is (so far) the best games made that they should be held to different standards. many games are sold with playable demos of other games, and no one -blam!-es about it (in fact its hardly even thought about). are you trying to say that just because halo is tha stuff that they have to make everything perfectly available for anyone in the world. thats ridiculous. everyone needs to stop freaking out about it and be happy that we have a chance at an early peak.

My biggest concern is: do you just have to have Halo 3 running, do you have to have activity in matchmaking, can you be just playing player matches, or WHAT!?!!?!?

I have ski club tomarro so it will be hard to convince my parents to let me stay home and even harder to convince them to let me spend the day playing XBL. I will try to act sick but I suck at faking. I went to halo3.com and don't see a "register here button". Pleas elaberate how you are able to seing up or register after the first meathod of entry has ended and before the 2nd one has begun. And will you have a better chance of entering if you register more than once? And why would you start playing before the window (12:01 AM feb 1 -12:01 PM feb 3rd. Correct me if I'm wrong.)has started?

i know u have to play for 3 hours but does it have to be 3 hours of games or 3 hours of online halo...like lets say a game is 15 minutes long does it have to be the games that add up to 3 hours or the time online playin halo?

YSA-113

I started thinking and I started to realize how genious this plan is. The Crackdown part is pretty obvious on the marketing side, but the rule of 3 is a bit more in the dark. Imagine, somebody wants to get involved, they have an Xbox360, Halo 2, but no gold acount and no windows live ID. They get Gold and go to Microsoft to sign up for one, right there is more money for Microsoft. Also the next 3 days will probably break the record (for Halo 2) on the amount of people online at once(PUBLICITY!!!). And if Bungie was smart (or just plain evil) they would fill up Halo3.com with advertisements and get a boatload of money.

And to respond to people who are disappointed to the Monday registration time: This is a beta, Bungie wants people who can actually test the game. People who have no life and will play the beta every single waking moment of their life. The Monday registration will automatically take out the "good" kids who decided to break the rule of "over 17", that doesn't mean that underage kids will attempt to obtain this beta. I bet that does who do get the beta will encounter the same kids that ruin the experience on Halo 2. The Monday registration will also eliminate adults who have to go to work early in the morning and can't afford to be up late night for the registration.

I really want to play Halo 3 now, but I'm pretty sure that no one I know (locally) will get chosen, so I guess I just have to wait until fall...sigh.

Rockets zipping past my ears, bullets ricocheting off my sheild, and somebody is trying to give me a headache.

What about the people that can't do the rule of 3 because the 360 had to go in for repairs? It's not our fault the system is a little faulty. I can honestly say that too because I treat all 10 of my consoles like they are babies. Yes, the Atari still works like it is brand new, and no I'm not a no-life gamer. I'm perfectly married, twins on the way, and going to college for game design.

First thing, yes you do have to play Halo 2, Bungie and Microsoft don't want people that won't even try to be on the beta test team. If you don't want to sit there and play for 3 hours, then you honestly don't want to be on the beta. Second, I'm pretty sure you have to play online, seeing as that is the only way they can track you. But I'm not sure about playing player matches.

Ok, here's the scoop to help KP and Frankie out. The first round beta registation is over, no more registration is goin on until the 5th of February. So you won't see a registration button. Second, in order to be eligible for this second registration, you have to be 17 or older. Yes kids, 17. This is probably to make sure that Bungie and Microsoft get some good advice from true gamers. During this "Rule of 3" registration, you have to play for 3 hours starting at 12am(Midnight) February 1st(Thursday) through 11:59 February 3rd(Saturday). You also have to play Halo 2 on the Xbox 360 with a Gold membership. Then on Monday, February 5th, anybody 17 or older can register. If you are the first 13,333 to register (17 or older), then you are eligible for the beta test. Yes, I keep on saying 17 and older because those are the rules.

  • 01.31.2007 4:31 PM PDT

Seems pretty simple. My only question is, does the February 5th day "start" at 12am EST?

But how do they check if you're 17 or older? Do they check your XBL subscribtion info, your windows live ID info, do you tell them there? And if it starts at midnight then I wont have to skip school tomarro? And when exactly does the window end? Are they testing our worthyness be seeing if we are big enough halo fans to stay up until midnight to play the 3 hours and to register? What about those with brocken allarm clocks? The majority of my inquiries remain unanswered!
