Subject: Halo RPG?

I'd just like to know what everyone thinks the chances of a Halo RPG would be and if anyone believes it would be a good idea. I actually believe a Halo RPG could be very good, but it could also be very bad. If they set it up like KotoR, Mass Effect, or even Oblivion, I believe it would turn out to be an awesome game. I doubt the chances of this, but it would be nice.

Isn't Halo Wars an RTS game? I'm almost positive it is. I'm looking for ideas about an RPG. But yeah, I do believe Halo Wars is going to be an awesome game.

Hm I understand what you are saying, but they are actually quite a bit different. RTS games are like Wc3, Starcraft, AoM, AoE. RPGs are like Final Fantast, Oblivion, KotoR, Zelda, Dragon Quest, and many more.

An RTS game is when you start out with basic units and maybe a couple of structures. You then produce new units and continue to create more buildings and increase your army. Then you battle with an opposing army and hope you created an effective army in a fast time.The faster you get the better you are. In RTS games it is usually just one battle on one map. After a person's army is completely destroyed the game is over.

An RPG is usually a very long game containing a deep storyline. Like in Final Fantast games, the battle is mainly turn based and you fight many creatures and bosses. It's not really seperated like RTS battles.

Maybe you should look around about Wc3 and Final Fantasy to see a major difference. It may sound like the same thing to a person who has not played a RTS game and a RPG. I probably made it more confusing...

Yeah, no type of Halo game will ever beat the FPS style.

Wikipedia; RTS: Real-time strategy, often abbreviated RTS, is a genre of computer games characterized by being wargames which take place in real-time, where resource gathering, base building, technology development and direct control over individual units are key components.

Wikipedia; RPG: A role-playing game (RPG, often roleplaying game) is a type of game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create or follow stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines.

To me they both sound like the same thing. In both genres, you need to try and improve your characteristics in which you make the game better for yourself. (building bases, improving weapons etc.)

While both a RTS and a RPG deal with improving characteristics, what differs is the scale at which you make these improvements.

In a RTS, you command resources and leveling up on a (relatively) large scale, dealing with hundreds of soldiers.
In a RPG, you command your party, a small squad, where much more emphasis is placed on the individual.

Some FPS games also contain elements of character-improvement; Counter Strike and its save-money-for-weapons feature comes to mind, as does Bioshock and its customize-your-weapon-to-do-crazy-things feature.

RTS =/= RPG
Most RTS games are decent, a few are good.
Most RPG games are crap, some are good, and EVE is pwnage incarnate.
Also, you'd struggle to find an PC-based RTS that was pay-to-play, but the opposite is true for PC RPGs. Even the RPGs that don't require a fee restrict non-paying users.
