Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Who you callin' dumb, feet? :P

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

No matter when you buy Vista, you will have to download a service pack either way. So waiting will not give you a better version.

I think you are foolish to get a new OS within 2 years of it being out.

Raise you hands if you have problems with vista!!!

I have no problems with it. I Also updated to XP at launch, no problems, didn't have much of a choice since I was running Windows ME

Yea I got the OEM version of Vista Ultimate from memoryexpress.com for $239.95 CAD. It runs a bit better then the previous version of "RTM" that I had. Only thing is the lackage of drivers and such so far.

Over priced and bloatware imo. Ive been using it at work for about 2 months, and at home for nearly a week.

Its very nice, its very pretty, but its so bloated its a joke.

On a fresh boot, with nothing running (or have been running), it uses 33% of 2 gig of memory. Thats a joke, it really is poor.

It doesnt offer much over XP at all, apart from prettyness, and possibly stability and security (but its too soon to say anything about those 2 yet).

Imo it was released far too soon. Theres a huge problem with drivers, and many many programs dont work properly (or at all) with it. This includes some microsoft programs, which for me, means they rushed it.

The simple fact is, I cant use it as well as XP, due to driver issues, and program incompatibility. It cant be rolled out at work, and at home I have to keep my XP installation because theres so much stuff Vista cant do!

If I had paid for it, Id be fuming. As it is, I get it from work, as I also develop at home.

Eh, so Vista had a rough start. That doesn't mean this thing can't become a jewel.

Nope, but unless they find a way to stop it being such a resource hog I wont be convinced.

I dare say it will get better (i.e. more programs will actually run on it and drivers will be released), but its been released far too premature.

All the people saying its a resource hog... Vista (Or the besta version at least does)... will be indexing and caching in the background and it was designed to be using all the empty cycles that your processor has. When they were needed by something else like a game or an application it would dtop what it was doing and you'd be able to carry on as before when you finished.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

Microsoft has said all along that Vista will require a machine more powerful than the current average in order to fully experience it, and also that it is not backwards compatible with many programs as they have dumped all the old code they were holding onto just so older programs could run.

I know my next machine I will be configuring to be a dual boot XP/Vista, just as many people made dual boot Win2000/XP or Win98SE/XP so they could use their older programs properly.

It's a new system, if I recall, even OS X didn't release perfect, and driver support can hardly be blamed on Microsoft.

I want to see how H2V runs on a system meeting the reccomended Vista requirements. Hopefully this spring we will get our hands on it.

Vista runs fine on the recomended specs. I had some trouble installing it, but other than that it runs fine.

Wrong. Waiting will allow them time to fix flaws and holes in Vista. Plus, again, the price will go down, more games will be released, and the OS will be better supported as a whole. Do you honestly think that the service pack released right now will be exactly the same as the service pack released later? It's like saying it doesn't matter if you download Firefox now or later, it's going to be the same.

Even if Vista has no visible flaws, doesn't mean there might be one or two nasty little exploits here and there. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not be the first in line to contract the next-generation superbug.

Oh, and EatMyFeet, student discounts probably from college.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

I could get home premium for $69 with an educational discount, so it's not unreasonable to think he could get it for $50 through his school.

depends on your specs

if it has a 1.0 GHZ+ CPU and 1 gig of ram its compatible with home premium and ultimate

if it has like 700 Mhz CPU and 512 mb of ram then its only compatible with home basic and business

i think...

Explain those numbers because 1. they are wrong. 2. they make no sense.

Home premium isnt any more demanding that business because there are only minor differences for what come with each OS (Media center focus for home and remote desktop and backup features for business). Home basic would be less demanding by default because it does not come with aero, but you can disable that in all versions.

Vista Premium Capable means you can get the maximum experience.

Vista Compatible just means you can run some form of Vista.

It's nice, but if you're a newbie, or you're not getting it for free, i'd recommend staying away from it until at least SP1 when they streamline the security stuff, its very cumbersome right now, and can be a pain as it bombards you with message after message asking you to confirm what you're doing. Its nice once you get rid of all that crpa, though.

Oh, and to clear up the arguments: All the versions of Vista use the same amount of resources, because as with XP, they're all exactly the same, just some features are locked/unlocked depending on which license code you're issued with.
