I'm sorry, but the "gamers are nerds" stereotype is really not all that strong anymore. Gaming has become so mainstream that it's just expected. RPG's are still slightly in the nerd realm (by this I mean RPG's that are *not* final fantasy), DDR sort of is, but not really anymore, and pretty much every RTS and MMoRPG falls straight into the nerd catagory.
Some people don't get all that overexcited about the release of much of anything. I'll be happy when I get my hands on Halo 2 (especially since I've had a chance to test the multiplayer and I know what I'm missing), but if it waits a week, it's not the end of the world. I think I've only ever seen a couple movies on opening day, and I didn't really personally care if I saw them opening day or not (I was there with friends). Ditto with other stuff.
Some people just don't see certain things as all that worth getting riled up over. Some people might be really excited about the same things. Then the look at each other and just sorta say, "huh... ok."
Anyway, the main point is... gaming does not a nerd make. Hardcore gaming... perhaps... but just gaming... nah.
That answers your question beautifully, i completely agree.
