Sometimes, short posts are necessary, and having to fluff them out would just look -blam!-.

If they're anything as short as "true," then they're spam. Try making an exampe of a short response that isn't spammy and contributing to the ongoing topic.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

"This idea can ultimately solve nothing because it can be bypassed."

That is not even a hundred characters. Were the discussion begun anew, I could in theory post that, and it would be an on-topic and mildly intelligent post. Requiring 10 characters would be too few since you simply force people from saying "no" to "no i dont like it" or "i think no." Now you could have a 100 character minimum, but then groups would have problems when they want to allow short posts, and you could have replies that are less than 100 characters that need an extra sentence in order to make it qualify for the minimum.

No matter what, you can't force lazy people to make intelligent posts, and you can't eliminate them without harming the intelligent posters.

You're the reason why I hate the internet.

Funny, I would've said the same thing about you, Impy.. >_>
Only in less words. Here's an example:

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

The biggest problem with this is that it'd be so extremely easy to get around that there really is little point. If a person is an idiot, it's probably better to only have them type out one word rather than make the rest of us have to read their drawn out garbage which'll be just as pointless as the 2 character post would have been, but just will take up more space.

  • 02.03.2007 11:58 AM PDT

Nice idea! This should be implemented.

Haha, Zag. I was actually joking with my post. The idea does actually appeal to me. A forum is an entirely different monster than a chat. While I do appreciate a fine piece of spam more than the common member, forums are meant for discussion. If your idea can't be stretched out to span a mere ten words then you are trying to communicate via the wrong means.

#moap exits stage right

Duh, Impy. Nothing you ever say is serious. Sheesh. :P

;)

Of course, the problem I see with this is that I could just quote someone, and then say "No."

That's more than 10 words, but I only technically wrote one.. Unless they could seperate [quote] text from stuff you wrote.

Well Enough Alone...

I rarely see a post that's less than 10 charecters. Especially if it's mine. But it's their loss if they think they can comunicate their piont to us compleatly and clearly with less than 10 characters.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

But then again there are those idiots who post things like "DIE!" or "NO!".

Sometimes there are threads where you can just post "Yes" or "No." If the thread has a "Yes" or "No" question and that is all I will post my opinion in one of those two words if I don't want to explain....or can't explain.

Well it is just like the rule at school ,"Make sure your answer in a complete sentence..."
You could say,"Yes, I did think it was funny when Johnny was mauled by that bear."

  • 02.03.2007 4:17 PM PDT

Lmao. I don't think their should be a limit at all. Let people say whatever stupid -blam!- they want. It doesn't really matter. The only bad thing is when someone uses one word in each post to construct a sentence.

You could do that but restating a topic in your sentence is just a waste of time because everyone knows what it is about.

Say a thread was, "Have you ever done something you really regret." I would say, "Yes." If I were to explain I would most likely break some rule.

There is no reason to restate the question in your sentence because everyone knows what the topic is about.

Yeah, but you don't have to say, "Yes, I have done something I really regret." You could explain it or something. Like saying, "Yes, one time I forgot to wipe my ass."

I'm pretty sure that's what American Recoil meant.

Do not panic, or you will fail.

Yeah, I agree.

The only reason for creating this thread was that it's a shame when someone takes time to construct a solid, orderly compilation of their ideas/theories, only for one or two arrogant individuals to display complete disregard for the topic, simply because their opinions differ. Then, of course, this usually spawns a pattern of, "No.", replies.

But, hey, I guess you can't change the community; and since it doesn't appear as if such a feature would work: Oh well.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Edit: Well, except Recon's. >.>
