It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.
This guide is ment to help everyone. Not just the newer members. My hopes are that when people look at this, even if they dismiss it as nothing more then a pointless thread, they will remember it. Then later on, when they are about to indulge in an old habit which is frowned upon in these forums, they'll remember this and decide "Hey, mabye it's not worth it." and stop. Now I've divided this into 2 sections, and each of those encompasses subsections. The first section is Grammar, and the second is Behavior.
Grammar Section
* Proper Punctuation- This is one of those things that really irritates most users. When people come in and type things like this-
"well halo 2 is gona b a lot better then killzone because halo 2 is made by bungie and we all know how awesome bungie is they made marathon and myth and minotaur and dont forget gnop that game is so badass can i b a mod." Take a breath! Try to slow down, and type as if you were talking. If you want to put emphasis on a certain word, you could also bold it or italicize it. Put periods in the right places, commas, exclamation marks and so on. Contractions don't need to have that much attention paid to them, as pretty much every member including myself forgets to use the apostrophe at some point or another.
* Capilalization and Abbreviation- This ones a biggy. Use the shift key guys, its there for a reason. Another thing- why do you have to abbreviate words that fewer then 7 letters?(I choose Se7en for the obvious Bungie-Related reason) Also, pay attention now, avoid using the word "n00b" or any related words such as "newb, noob, newbie", or so on. This is an offense and can get you banned. It makes me want to get out my anti son-of-a--blam!- stick when I see someone typing like this-
"isnt new mobosa so -blam!-???? all tha peeps there r so st00pid. LOL! dem always sayin da good parts in da story. u agree?" and also, avoid using "2" as a substitute for "to" or "too". Try to proofread your posts when your done. I, out of habit, always do this. However I do it after I post it. Then, if I find anything that needs correcting I edit the post.
If there is anything I missed in this section, feel free to post it.
Behavior Section
* Dealing with Spam- As we all know, spammers suck. However, flaming them will only encourage them. The best thing to do is just leave the post alone and notify a mod. I probably isn't a bad idea to post that you have informed a mod, simply so that 10 people arent sending PM's to the mods. If someone has already posted that the mods have been informed, theres no need to PM the mods again, or reply to the thread.
* Posting Threads- When you post a thread, make sure it serves a purpose. If its simply "I went to the store and saw a box of Goldfish!" then nobody will care, and you'll probably get flamed quite a bit. Try posting things that will make the forum better. Think about if it's something you would care about. Also, one big thing. Do not make the title all caps. It's so annoying reading "I SAW A HALO 2 COMMERCIAL!!!". I don't see why "I saw the new Halo 2 commercial!" wouldn't do. Other then that, just make sure that the first post is pretty organized and well thought out, because I find that if the first post gives me a good impression I tend to post there more, hence progressing the thread. Another thing- don't make apology threads or "Im sorry I don't do [action] right, but live with it" threads. They're just so annoying. Like if people say "You need to get better at typing", put something in your profile saying "I don't care that I type bad, so don't tell me" or something along that line. I think Blue Elite has that type thing in his profile. (Correct me if I'm wrong...)
* Posting Replies- When posting replies, try to remember a few big things. One is make sure it relates to the main idea of the thread. If the subject is "Halo 2 Wepons", don't go in and post about how cool the ghosts new boosting feature is. Also, don't go on for a few sentances about how cool the Battle Rifle is, switch to SMG's, then go back to the Battle Rifle. It just confuses people. Instead consolidate the two Battle Rifle segments into one, so the veiwers aren't confused about which gun your talking about.
Here are a few links I found.

Awesome Thread- Link to IE Spell Check
Now keep in mind, this is just a general overveiw. There are some very good threads that don't abide by most of these rules, such as the first Laser Wars threads. I don't say the more recent ones simply because I don't like them as much. But hey, thats me.
Well guys, thats all. Feel free to post some more links if you find them. I didn't go into New Mombasa for the obvious reasons, and only checked the stickies in the other Forums. (Except for Private Simmons' thread) Feel free to point out anything that I missed also. Ill add it in when I get a chance.
