Welcome to my signature, apparently I can't respond right now so please don't leave me a message, because I will not get back back to you after the beep.

Bungie should give a free pie for anyone who buys Halo 2 Vist, that should bring up sales by at least 1.......me

I'm there but, man this is really starting to sound like communism.
Long live the MAW.

There are three things that will hinder H2V's sales:
# Vista only (nobody will pay $99 to play a two year old game)
# Other than the graphics, there's nothing really new about H2V
# Many PC gamers see the Halo series as being "noobish"

As Vista becomes the standard OS, however, sales of H2V will increase.

1- pehaps so, but other games such as Crysis is something that some people will buy Vista to play. and if they do, they might aswell get Halo 2 Vista.
2-custom content, free online play.

Vista will sell just fine, people won't pay $99 to play H2V but they will pay $99 for a brand new OS that has a better code/kernel type. Some people say that Vista is a resource hog but it works fine on anything with at least 1 GB of memory. Everyone is skeptical when a new OS first comes out but they always get it eventually. Ask any one who didn't get Windows 98 when it came out eventually did get it. Just like not everyone who had Windows 98 didn't get XP when it first came out. What I am trying to say is everyone will eventually get Vista, its just a matter of time, or until they have better driver support.

The answer: Sales with remain low on release, and after 3-6 months will boom. It's how it works.

A lot of people will buy it because they can't afford to pay for Xbox Live (like myself). So they'll get it so they can a) play it on their custom systems b) Play it online without needing to pay c) play with their friends without the annoying screen hopping. Just three suggestions why people would buy it on PC.

The thing I most regret is that Halo never came out on PC back in 2001. UYou hold Halo up against Half-life and its not even a contest. But alas we will never know.

Yup, Half Life would totally beat Halo into the dust, you're right about that, Iggwilv.

To the OP. I don't think H2V will be anything special, neither was Halo PC for that matter, but it won't run on GameSpy servers like it's predecessors. I beleive MS will incorporate its new Live servers, similar to what they have on Xbox but not cross platform. Also of note to Vista just seems, as far as the implementations to gaming and "Games for Windows", is make the PC platform more like consoles.
At least Valve and their STEAM servicee will be outside this "Games for Windows" business.

For once, I'm going to back up the consoles here and tell you that isn't supposed to be a bad thing. By making it more like consoles, it will make PC gaming more appealing and try to get more and more people to play PC games.

Go into a game store, and most likely the PC gaming section isn't all that appealing--it's right next to the office supplies. Compare it to the console platforms and demo kiosks, and you'll see most people head there, as it is more appealing and attractive. Games For Windows is making PC gaming more attractive and appealing, just as it deserves to be. Whether or not the fact that more noobs will be able to play on PC games because they won't need a prerequisite knowledge to operate games on their system is a good thing, this will make more people play PCs.

Also, I respect Valve, and the fact they won't participate in the Games For Windows marketing campaign.

Get Marathon Here
Get Marathon 2 and Infinity Here

It will sell, it's Halo, the unquestionable champion of true to FPS multiplayer. The opposite of Doom, Quake and Unreal Tournament.

As long as they keep the beloved open server list that is the best part of a PC game other than mods, I will be happy. I believe that PC gamers arn't too fond of the idea behind matchmaking, eh?

It won't break any sales records and won't sell as well as other games, like has been said. But it will sell.

Oh, and I don't know where some people here are getting their info, but H2V is not three years old. It's not even released yet. So yes, I will be getting this brand new game, because I have not played it before. And the graphics are still sweet, regardless of any relation to Halo 2 on XBox ::shudder::

But most importantly: Have they fixed superbouncing?! I do not recall reading anything concerning H2V having that bug. And I want dedicated Bungie servers.

Power of Will is a Weapon. Never Die!

The big selling point that Halo PC had over the Xbox version, was online multiplayer, without using some tunneling software like XboxConnect. Halo PC sold around a million copies and I bet a large portion of those people also owned the Xbox version as well. Without that selling point for H2V, I would be surprised if H2V even brakes the 250,000 mark. Microsoft should really bring in H2V at a budget price point, like $29.99, to help boost sales.

Ah, but you forget, H2V is shipping with a built in editing kit, how many games have that that are worth modding?

Bullcrap. We all know who the king of FPS multiplayer is, it's CounterStrike. Nothing else even comes close.

The opposite of Doom, Quake and Unreal Tournament.

True enough. Those games were succesfull, playable, and popular in the PC environment, unlike Halo PC.

Ya think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who's the demographic for this game? Hard core PC gamer types will never ever take a Halo title seriously, especially after the disaster that was Halo PC.

Console kiddies already have it. So the market is people who like to mod Halo, and people who preferr their FPS with a mouse and aren't already playing one of the other titles.

Halo 2 has been out for the Xbox for three years already. The perception is that it's old.

I didn't forget, that's why I put my guesstimated sales figures at 250,000. :-)
Like Halo PC, I would still say that a large portion of H2V owners will already own Halo 2 for the XB or X360, myself probably included. ;-) If Microsoft releases H2V at $50 though, I might wait till it drops in price, but if it hits retail at $30 or $40, then I'll probably buy it at launch and enjoy the enhanced graphics and cool mods that people will make.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

I don't think H2V is going to sell very well around launch.

Personally, I will not buy H2V until more details are known about measures to prevent cheating or stupid things like TKing.

Bungie completely left Halo PC to rot, they need to make amends before I give them more of my money.

Vista itself will be a fact of life, but I'll probably hold out until SP1.

Dude, they solved this problem a very long time ago when they made it so if you are teamkilled several times, you have the option of booting the person who betrayed you. There is virtually no problem of teamkilling on Halo 2, especially with the aspect of ranked games where nobody wants to teamkill their teammates.

Cheating, however, is another problem which Bungie is trying its best to get rid of.
