Maybe Bungie should upgrade the forums to vBulletin. Ideal Science isn't the top notch kind of forum anyway. Besides, Invisionfree is better than Ideal Science. I was thinking Bungie should do some upgrading because there forums are losing their teh hawtness!

That's only on opinion. Some people may thing Ideal Science is better than Invision (Me, for instance.). If it was better, I'm sure Bungie would have changed it a while ago. And I don't think Invision can handle .Net Passports.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

WOW! Bungie.net has a one-of-a-kind forum seen nowhere else. Bungie's forum is excellent! If Bungie changed it (which I doubt) they will see that they made a huge mistake and start over.

It's too cluttered. Besides, we get many posts with just words and not by using pictures and such. With a site this busy and large, it's better to have a simpler forum than one like vBulletin.

Clearly we have different definitions of the word "upgrade."

vBulletin wouldn't be able to handle the traffic these forums see.

What would changing Forums do to make Bungie better anyways?

That would be down grading actually. In these forums achronos can customize anything. vBulletin and invisionfree wouldn't be able to handle the kind of traffic that these boards have. With over 2 million accounts created, whether or not they are active, there is still more traffic and other things that would make invionfree and vBulletin inadequate for this site.

Should Bungie downgrade to vBulletin?
No. :P

Sorry, I just felt like doing that.

Nice one, and to the point! :P

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

We've alraedy talked about this. vBulletin would be a downgrade because it would collapse and explode under the amount of traffic.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Achronos once said he used IdealScience because they were the only ones who could handle the specs he wanted for this board. I don't think any other software could handle all the built-in extensions and traffic as well as this one.

I don't even know how vbulletin would handle the stats. They would probably have to leave the same framework for the stats section, and keep it separate from the boards.

This software is more than capable of handling all the activities that go on here. There is no need to change, and we would probably working backwards anyway.

I'm sure he'll shoot down this idea soon enough. He's good at that.

Yes, it would collapse, explode, and implode all at the same time creating a black hole and a supernove in the interwebz all at the same time.

The shock wave would be devasting making many of the tubes crack under the pressure.

The interawebz would die.

  • 02.04.2007 1:38 PM PDT

Lol. I don't see anything wrong with these forums, and see no need for them to change.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

Yea. Basically. PhpBB can handle like, at most 5,000? I dunno about invisionfree. Anything besides IdealScience, even though I dont like idealscience too much, would simultaniously combust within .0334 miliseconds after installation.

Bungie has alot more than 5,000 members.

Invisionfree can handle ALOT more than you guys think. Look at IFSZ they have around 200,000 members.

200,000 is nowhere close to bungie. Bungie is in the millions of accounts right? Invisionfree can't handle that much, PhPBB can't handle that much. I dont know of any other system that can.

Edit: Yes, I know bungie has more than 5,000. I'm saying that PhPBB can only handle about 5,000 from my exiprience and still run 100% smoothly.

Bottomline: Ideal Science is Top of The Line. That is why Achronos chose it. If Ideal Science isn't reliable then why would you choose it to run a worldwide community.

This thread won't help much so I would just give up. Nothing is going to change.

Wouldn't changing systems also mean all the users would have to re-register? Along with all the threads and groups and such being lost? Ideal science is the only one I know if that has the group feature period... I'd use it for my site, but it costs money. :/
